Tell us how you feel about AT&T Mobility

It looks like AT&T has botched yet another Apple iPhone launch. Four for four. At least they’re consistent.

MacDailyNews reader continue to seethe as their attempts to give Apple and ATT money for new iPhone 4 units and “AT&T service” plans, which in major cities means pretty much “no bars for you,” fail miserably.

During iPhone pre-orders which began today, it seems that AT&T’s capacity has been exceeded. Again. And water is wet.

Apple’s website, although sluggish, seems to take the user’s info, but when Apple has to check with AT&T to determine upgrade eligibility, the process fails.

In our opinion, as the image above might indicate, AT&T is hopelessly overmatched and incapable of handling Apple’s iPhone business. They have no ability to adequately predict demand. They may also be hopelessly cheap in addition to being bungling amateurs. Inept AT&T, with their cobbled-together rebranded Cingular network, are holding back Apple iPhone sales and have been tarnishing the Apple brand for years now. Apple needs to add to their U.S. carrier lineup yesterday.

Apple and AT&T stand to make billions of dollars off iPhone 4 customers. For apple to not have adequate capacity or not have forced AT&T to have adequate capacity to take orders from current and new customers for hours now and counting is bush league.

But, don’t let our opinion cloud yours: Tell us below what you think of AT&T Mobility.

Now’s your chance; you never know, maybe somebody at Apple is actually paying attention as they, through their misguided exclusive-U.S. carrier choice, once again frustrate their customers, new and potential, to no end.

While you’re at it, let Apple CEO Steve Jobs know how you feel, too:

It’s being sold unlocked for a long time in Italy. Here in Switzerland, we have one carrier that doesn’t offer the iPhone officially by apple, but this carrier just imports the phones from Italy, to give it to the customers. I ask myself for quite a while, why you Americans don’t import iPhones from Italy, at least on the GSM networks it should work…

  2. Yeah, I hate AT&T;. My iPhone usually displays five bars…until I try to make a phone call or get onto YouTube or an online game; then the bars disappear and the ‘3G’ turns into an ‘E’. Calls are dropped very frequently and when they aren’t dropped the quality stinks…just as bad as, say, 15 years ago. I cannot wait to sign on for an iPhone with another carrier. AT&T;stinks.

  9. AT&T;has been fine for me. I went to the store in our mall and though it was a bit slow had my order processed. I really think that any carrier would have difficulties keeping up with today’s demand. I mean millions of people ordering all at once and checking eligibility …. That’s a lot of processing.

  10. It doesn’t matter whos servers or IT was the culprit. The blame falls no less on Apple than AT&T;.
Apple coulda shoulda made damn sure AT&T;could perform their part. They have the software, hardware, and engineers, and experts, all of the required resources to unfuk AT&T;’s lesser counterparts.
If Apple did not have their resources in house over on at&t;’s end, they dam well should have.
Apple doesn’t get a pass on this, just like they don’t get a pass an the downsides of AT&T;and the whole exclusivity deal.
Apple made these choices we all must live with.
To say AT&T;hasn’t learned anything in four straight botched launches is to say Apple hasn’t learned anything either. It’s exactly the same, they are both in this thing together and could be collaborating much better. That’s nothing but the truth.

  11. Yes, there have been problems with the iPhone which, in my opinion and many others, are AT&T;’s fault. It’s also true that these same problems would have happened on any other carrier with whom Apple had an exclusivity agreement. I’m fairly confident that if this were a product over which Apple had the ordering control, things would have gone smoothly, but the moment you throw in one of the telcos (who, let’s face it, none of whom are really committed to excellence), these sorts of things were bound to happen.

And as to the guy and his agricultural comment, people have expectations. That’s human nature. And particularly when people’s wallets are involved, they expect to get a satisfactory return on their money. Expecting people to just shed all expectations just doesn’t work too well.

  12. Every time I talk with AT&T;customer service I am impressed how good these people are. They are as good as Apple customer service.

For me, AT&T;service is just fine, but then I don’t live anywhere near any American metropolis.

  13. The AT&T;contract is what has prevented me from purchasing an iPhone. They are a very inept company and I have avoided them like the plague. I am very disappointed with Verizon for screwing up the initial contract negotiations with Apple because they got into a p!$$ing contest over control. Just let Apple have the control over the device and rake in the profits that you will make because business will jump the AT&T;ship in droves!

  14. I love Apple. I love my iPhone. I admire AT&T;. I think the way the media and MDN reports on AT&T;is about as unbalanced as Fox News reporting on Obama’s handling of the economy. Had it not been for AT&T;(Cingular) the iphone wouldn’t have seen the light of day. Verizon didn’t believe in the product, T-Mobile’s lackluster network wasn’t even an option and Sprint…well Sprint isn’t the healthiest of carriers from a financial stand point to develop a partnership with. It was AT&T;who listened to Jobs and gave Apple what they wanted. They believed in the product and made it possible for Americans to enjoy. Their network performance has been overly criticized and has even become fashionable to hate as having a Facebook or twittering. No device of this magnitude has put more of a strain on a carrier’s network than the iPhone. Let’s face it. We love our iPhones and are data hogs without regret. AT&T;realized this a long time ago but did they run and hide and jump ship when it came time to renew their exclusivity with the iPhone? No they didn’t. Had they done so and removed the noose from around their neck their network speeds would have greatly improved. Instead they chose to cater to Apple and improve their network by investing billions and those in cities who had less than stellar data performance before KNOW that their iphone experience has improved quite a bit. THIS is why Apple continues their partnership with AT&T;. They know the anti-AT&T;rhetoric on the news and online is just that- rhetoric. Behind the scenes they see a wireless partner that works well. From a financial standpoint to a performance standpoint. Those holding on to their dreams of a Verizon iPhone should really wake up. It’s not going to happen anytime soon. The CDMA platform they utilize for their network is aging and far from standard in the rest of the world’s networks. By waging their war against rival AT&T;they have since lashed out at the iPhone and instead have put all their eggs in one basket with Google’s Android series. This doesn’t float well with Apple and further deteriorates and hopes of a partnership with them and a Verizon iPhone. Verizon doesn’t mind however because they, along with the other major networks, know the strain of the bandwith slayer that is the iPhone has on a carrier’s network. They’ve seen how a revolutionary device like the iPhone brings a carrier’s network under a microscope and close scrutiny like what has happened to AT&T;. So do I admire AT&T;mobility? You bet I do. Thank you for delivering us the most beautiful and powerful mobile phone the world has seen and keep up the good work.
