Dell is a member of the Open Handset Alliance™ (OHA), a group of technology and mobile companies working together to accelerate innovation in mobility. MacDailyNews Take: With a screen that’s just one-fourth the size of Apple’s iPad, this looks to be beleaguered Dell’s try at an “iPod touch killer.” Apparently, Dell will attempt to bore iPod touch to death.

  1. Alot depends on the price. If it were $299 for example. And the memory IS user upgradable with cheap memory cards, with Android now able to store apps on those cards.

In short, the specs aren’t bad, and I don’t see why it merits such derision from this crowd.

I like my iPad hugely, but yes there are times when it is a tad too big.

Might as well prepare ourselves for the competition which is coming – there will surely be some very enticing iPad clones.

  2. Shameful.
Shameful, how bad the hardware resembles iPhone industrial aesthetics.
Shameful, how bad the OS resembles iPhone OS and Mac OS X.

Do these people have no pride, originally or aplomb of their own?

How can they all be so clueless…

  3. Given the 5″ form factor, I prefer the name “Bacon Strip”.

    @Bot(net)vinnik:
-“multitasking”, which is vying for top spot in tech’s “I don’t think that word means what you think it means” contest, is a known feature of the 4.0 OS.
-there’s several apps that allow you to wirelessly print.

You’re a pretty awful troll, if that is actually what you’re trying to be.

  4. 3 mins of battery life when watching any flash content and 1.5 hours of battery life when connected to any network cell or wifi. 3 hours of battery life with cell and wifi networking off. Android the new Windows Virus and Malware infested crap targets.

  5. @Rosswell. You really haven’t got the hand of this forum have you! Anything without an apple badge is automatically met with derision.

Credit to Dell. Looks like they will be first out of the door with an intermediate sized device. Wise move – it will avoid direct comparisons with the iPad, and get them a toe in the market before others do: Apple is rumoured to have a similar sized one in the works.

  6. @kevt: “Credit to Dell. Looks like they will be first out of the door with an intermediate sized device. Wise move.”

It’s a wise move only if there is a market for such a device. Apple took a huge risk with the iPad, as there was no defined market for it. When it was introduced, the tech pundits all asked the same thing: “Who needs it?/What it is for?” Given the sales curve, it appears that Apple did, in fact, make a wise move. There’s no way to be certain (yet) whether Dell is making a wise move. Given the much lower level of differentiation between a smartphone and the Streak, please explain why you think this is a wise move. I don’t say it’s impossible, just unlikely.

“Apple is rumoured to have a similar sized one in the works.”

Not a chance in hell. If you believe that rumor, you have no business commenting on Apple.

  7. Looks to me like Dell is trying to backdoor their way into competing with the iPhone, so as not to be just another Android phone, but it’s too big for a phone and too small for a tablet.

  8. Hey,
This looks like a nice product. And it seems to run well. snappy.

    Of course :

It looks like an iPhone (slightly bigger and harder to fit in your pocket)
It operates like an iPhone .
It has wigets and apps like an iPhone.
It will make phone calls like an iPhone.
It will multi-task like an iPhone OS 4 will.
I have to wonder what the price is and if its sold thru Dell, there will be no cell phone carrier discount.??????

So, exactly why do I want this device?? Oh yea. its screen is slightly bigger than an iPhone….

Course, I could take and plug my iPhone into a tv set and watch my stuff on a 32 inch screen…… just a thought. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> LOL

  9. Trying to make a phone call with that thing is going to be awkward, you have to find a private corner or bathroom to hold that thing to your head and no one breaking out into laughter nearby.
