“A man who allegedly mangled a man’s pinky so severely during an iPad theft that the finger later was amputated was arrested early this morning, police say,” Kirk Mitchell reports for The Denver Post.
“Brandon Darnell Smith, 20, was arrested at 1:14 a.m. without incident at his home, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman,” Mitchell reports. “He is being held for investigation of second-degree assault and robbery in the April 15 strong-arm robbery of Bill Jordan, 59, according to Jackson.”
Mitchell reports, “The suspect jerked so hard it stripped the skin on part of Jordan’s pinky to the bone.”

Those are called “degloving” injuries. There is a big aluminum rolling plant here in my city. Occasionally, workers get their whole hand degloved. Not nice; the result looks a bit like those waving skeletons some people have in front of their house on Halloween.
Just a pinky finger being degloved would be nasty looking.

I saw that happen to a guy back in the early ’70s. He was in maintenance and they were moving a huge thermoset press when he got his gloved hand caught underneath. His reaction was to yank as hard as he could and it stripped it like you described. I almost puked and passed out.
On another note, there was a woman with long hair who got it caught in a drill press. It literally scalped her to the bare skull, but they were able to sew it back on. Thank goodness that was before my time.

Having HIS hands ‘degloved’ should be the punishment this guy gets if found guilty in a court of law. Then he will always have a reminder of not only his stupid crime, BUT get to suffer a similar fate to the person whose life he changed – mentally as well as physically!

He is glad this didn’t happen to me… As I and over 15,000 of my law abiding citizens here in Colorado DO have concealed weapon permits. There would have not been any hunting for him necessary. I would have simply done a citizen’s arrest with my .45.

Yes, charge him the max for the theft and assault! In times past, he would also loose a finger or hand. They did not repeat that crime again. (Very short rap sheet because only a limited number of body parts to remove.) I have thought about this assault a lot.
These kids shoot at each other not caring who is in the line of fire. Or race from a crime seen hitting those walking or driving around them. Or steal from a disabled person. No integrity or character. It doesn’t interest them and never did. They seem to have damaged their mind and thinking process to an unrecognizable point by the general public. Banishing them to an island never to return is also out of fashion now too. Maybe military training to replace the training that they never got when they were young? I do not know and only wish it would end. It will not. It will just get worse.
