“Apple as early as this month will begin to fill out its 2009 Mac product line with a new family of iMacs sporting classier enclosures and a few added bells and whistles,” Kasper Jade reports for AppleInsider. “The new all-in-one, dual-core desktops were finalized earlier in September and have been rolling off the Mac maker’s Taiwanese product lines for roughly two weeks, according to two people familiar with the matter.”
“In addition to more affordable pricing, the systems are expected to come clad in a thinner industrial design,” Jade reports. “People familiar with Apple’s thinking have suggested in recent months one of these moves could see the company finally embrace Blu-ray.”
Jade repots, “An announcement could come anytime between next week and mid-October. Put simply, it’s up to marketing to press the ‘Go’ button.”

not a moment too soon
Sweet, I’m in the market for a new 24″ imac.
I’ve been waiting for a new iMac. Wonder if this will be a smart time to buy or whether after the iTab is released around February would be better. There’s a website that chronicles how frequently everything is updated, gotta find that again.
Press my go button, I need a 24″ model for the studio. Time to replace my old G4 tower, seems like the iMac is the way to go.
My pocketbook eagerly awaits.
I on the otherhand need six months to save cash. They should have the bugs worked out by then.
I wonder what graphic card they intend to use in the next iMac? anybody??
Let the hand wringing, bitching and whining begin!
Must….hide……credit…….card!
hopefully it will be a worthwhile update.. just got a couple new 24″ iMac’s at work atleast 6 months after I got this one… very un noticable changes at all.
Yup one last update before the holiday spree sounds right. Just forget about blu-ray.
new mouse and keyboard thankyou

” …. the late 2009 iMac line should also debut several features previously unavailable to Mac buyers ….
….. Meanwhile, a pair of other associated enhancements — one believed to be related to audio — should see this new generation of iMacs become the most versatile ever ….
…. Apple is primed to extend the capabilities of at least one technology introduced on the Mac platform as recently as last fall. …. “
Very interested in audio — any guesses what this could be?
If there is a new mouse and keyboard, can we have page-up and page-down that actually work for the keyboard user. I.E. the cursor moves with the page !!!
I could care less about blu-ray.. But I find it hard to believe it would be introduced in the iMac before the Mac Pro..
They also feature Multi-Touch displays.
L.E.D. screen, anyone?
Geez…how am I going to hide a new 24″iMac beside my just purchased 24″ iMac if they look different?
