Houston Chronicle reviews Apple’s 5G iPod nano: ‘Astounding’

Apple Store“The kids are back in school, the holiday season is rapidly approaching, and, as usual, Apple has introduced its fall lineup of new and improved iPod,” Bob Levitus reports for The Houston Chronicle.

“While the other iPods are decidedly better than they used to be, the new iPod nano is astounding,” Levitus reports. “Available in 9 brilliant colors, it has a gorgeous polished aluminum finish reminiscent of metallic paint on exotic cars.”

“Other new features include a larger 2.2-inch color display and FM radio with Live Pause, which lets you pause live radio for up to 15 minutes or rewind it as far as 15 minutes,” Levitus reports. “Like the iPod shuffle, the new iPod nano has VoiceOver and speaks 20 languages. And it even has a built-in pedometer to count your steps and calories burned.”

“The coolest thing about the new iPod nano, however, is its built-in video camera complete with microphone, for recording and speaker for playback,” Levitus reports. “It even lets you apply clever video effects like film grain or the cool animated cyborg targeting overlay to the video you shoot.”

Levitus reports, “The iPod nano’s video quality isn’t as good as the Flip Video camcorders I’ve raved about. But the iPod nano is smaller, prettier and does more for less at $149 for 8GB or $179 for 16GB.”
