Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard means business

Tim Beyers reports for The Motley Fool, “The iEmpire launched its latest rebellion with the release of Snow Leopard on Friday, the newest edition of Mac OS X, which: At $29, costs about what you’d pay for a fast-food dinner for a family of four; Frees up to 7 gigabytes space on your Mac by eliminating digital clutter; Offers built-in support for Microsoft’s Exchange network services, making Macs a whole lot more business-friendly.”

MacDailyNews Take: Anyone with even a cursory understanding of Apple, Microsoft, and Star Wars would never use the term “iEmpire” to describe Apple or their “latest rebellion.” For the sake of the value of continuing on, let’s pretend that Beyers has never seen Star Wars.

Beyers continues, “Technology buyers may finally be coming back. To get them to come back to the Mac, Apple needs an OS that does better business. Snow Leopard is that OS… The Mac is back, growling and hungry for market share.”

  1. @ ping,

I partitioned and installed the 32-bit version of Win7 RC on my homebuilt PC running XP. Believe me, I have experienced no loss of performance; just the opposite, it runs fast and doesn’t have the screwy security hassles of Vista.

That said, it’s still no OS X.

  2. “And, by the way, the retail disc of Snow Leopard ($30) will install on a blank hard drive, a drive with Tiger or Leopard, and won’t complain about anything at all. There are absolutely no restrictions on that disk regarding what you need to have on your Mac before installing it. No serial number either. Apple continues to have faith in their faithful and trust that everyone will buy the proper package and install it in the proper number of Macs”

…and THAT is why I bought the full family pack even though I only upgrade two machines. And the way MS treats customers is why if i ever do get office it will be via bittorrent.

  3. Loved installing Snow Leopard. It was great, right up until I found out it killed my HP printer! No fix, no appropriate driver available, no nothing. Can’t get any help from Apple, and HP just says “Buy a new printer!” Guess I will, but it’ll be a Canon, certainly not an HP.

    CRAP-OLA!

  4. @ 17foursixty,

Did you boot in 64 bit?

32 bit drivers do work when you boot in 32 bit.

Don’t hold down the 6 and 4 when you boot.

Or are you just trying to make SL sound like Vista?

  5. Oh and I should add. I bought the 40 dollar version (australia) and installed it on top of Tiger, yes Tiger. Now I was expecting an erase and install, as in wiping the HD, but all my files were left intact. So I basically upgraded 10.4.11 to 10.6 without having to totally wipe out my HD.

  6. The U. of Chicago Manual of Style (a “Bible” in the field) states, “If the element introduced by a colon consists of more than one sentence, or if it is a formal statement, a quotation, or a speech in dialogue, it should begin with a capital letter. Otherwise it may begin with a lowercase letter.”

I surmise that capitals in other situations are allowable. I’ve never heard of capitalization after a semicolon. I’m sure it’s wrong.

  7. I installed this on my 2 year old Macbook Pro and it was running like my brand new one and even faster. Now I’ve installed it on my Brand new 17 inch macbook pro and it runs much faster than before.. I’d say a good 30% at least. Not to mention the Hard drive space. 76.69 GB available before install. 98.28 GB after install. I’ve got some minor video card glitches here and there but for $30 I cant really complain especially since I know the update 10.6.1 (the true “service packs”) will be coming and will be free.

By the way.. does anyone else feel like a dirty slut saying “service packs” about apple products.. just wondering lol

  8. @Big Als,
No, not trying to sound negative at all and CERTAINLY not like Vista. Just the facts! A real bummer.

@Sky Lark, thanks. I’ll try those and see if anything helps.

@Big Als – don’t know how to boot in to anything. How to boot in to 32 bit?
