Ah…politics on an Apple site…how fun!
While it can be said that no new domestic attacks by terrorists took place during the REST of the Bush tenure. But by that measure every president BEFORE Bush gets the same kudos.
Nearly EVERY OTHER ASPECT OF AMERICAN LIFE IS WORSE TODAY.
Our economy is in the worst shape it has been in since the 30’s
Our educational profile is worse today than when Bush took office
We are actually LESS secure since the invasion of Iraq BRED more terrorists than it eliminated
Our level of respect in the world is diminished tremendously
Our military power is diminished tremendously
Our national debt is at an all time high (this factors in separately from the economy)
Our balance of trade is incredibly out of whack
Our middle class has shrunk (and study after study, economist after economist all say the same thing…a healthy middle class is evidential of a strong democracy)
Our health care system is in serious trouble (44 million without insurance!!!)
Show me the ‘bright spots’ of the Bush years. Are there any?
He MISSED stopping the biggest attack on our nation in decades and now we should give him credit for ‘stopping’ others? Like I said by that measure Clinton, Reagan, Bush the first, even Carter and Ford could make that claim. Is it like they just got the IDEA of attacking us when Bush was elected?
The fact is Bush is a monumental failure as a leader. Every aspect of his life before led him to this outcome. No amount of revisionist history will change it.

Gee, that’s just sad. Maybe you should read a little history. The United States federal government was set up as a set of secular institutions by, for the most part, very religious men (influenced, no doubt, by very religious women). From the Constitution…
“Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,…”
There IS NO reference in our Constitution regarding separating government from any particular religiosity, practices or beliefs regarding God or any other “Higher Power” one chooses to believe in. Only that the government shall not establish an official religion that everyone must follow.
Thomas Jefferson brought up the phrase of “separation between church and state” in his letter written to Danbury Baptists, whose State Legislature was meddling in their ability to practice religion as they saw fit. Jefferson wrote the following:
“Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state.”
NOTE that Jefferson’s “wall of separation” was coined to support religious activities against a meddling government entity, NOT the other way around.
The same Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence the following:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
The BIG point of this is not that everyone needs to be actively religious, but that the “unalienable Rights” that we share as human beings, in general, and codified for us as Americans come from a power higher than any one man or governmental body. Without the acceptance of that premise it should be apparent to most what one strong man without ethics can do. See most Communist or Dictatorial regimes that begin with atheism and idealism as a foundation and devolve into gulags, ethnic cleansing, mass murder and enemies of the state as soon as a strongman of the wrong persuasion gets control of the state apparatus. The ends justify the means when there is no higher power to answer to (eg, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, etc.).
When Religious institutions have held political power there have been disasters too, but that is not the case here. Religious PEOPLE have influence only, and attempts to silence them is every bit as wrong as an ultra religious governing body, such as the Taliban, using the force of the State to compel people to follow their beliefs.
All in all, I would much prefer to be governed by people that know that they are not the top of the food chain. And even though I didn’t vote for him, I hope Obama has a wonderfully successful Presidency, especially since he is an iPod user (back on topic).
