Australia’s Virgin Mobile is sold out of Apple iPhone 3G units.
In a note posted to the company’s website, Virgin Mobile states:
The iPhone is so hot, it’ll take a little longer to get to you.
Order now & we’ll email you as soon as yours is on its way.
8GB black/16GB white are arriving weekly, 16GB black is due late August.
Virgin Mobile’s iPhone 3G website can be found here.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Seth J.” for the heads up.]
Maybe Apple should build an iPhone production plant here in the US to help meet demand. Put some Americans to work for a change.
“Order now & we’ll email you as soon as yours is on its way.”
On it’s way? What does that mean?
On it’s way from the U.S.? On it’s way from China?
Or on it’s way from the distributor to the local store?
Inquiring minds want to know.
“Put some Americans to work for a change.”
Management has been trying to pull that on us for years, and we’ll have none of that crap!
They never had any IN stock. What a scam.
“Maybe Apple should build an iPhone production plant here in the US to help meet demand.”
Yeah right. And the week after opening a plant, the Unions have signed up all the employees and they demand all kinds of socialist ideas and go to strike.
Wonder why manufacturing went overseas?
Gee! These 800’000 phones pulled out per month won’t be enough!! This is a tremendous and never seen success for an handset!

I’m looking forward for the prepaying and cheaper model!
Did you guys know that those little devices that Apple employees carry around to ring up sales are powered by Windoze Mobile?
Apple, using Windoze to ring up sales. Thats rich.
Hee hee hee hee hee!
Pathetic. Apple really screwed up with the iPhone 3g rollout. Putting a “its so hot” spin on it is just being manipulative.
Be honest Apple. You fracked up.
was the same with wii n wii fit people wanted them not a mistake or production problem u could get a ps3 anyhwere it’s called supply and demand apple could have doubled production for launch and still sold out it’s a no win situation for customers but a win win for apple
Jonk: they had a few in stock – I got 2 when they launched last Friday – Brisbane CBD virgin store had 20 white 16gb and 20 8gb
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” /> strange low key launch though, even now the apple Australia iPhone “where to buy” page doesn’t mention virgin. They have best data plan of all iPhone sellers in Australia.

i like my union job; 70K plus overtime, 13 sick days, 12 holidays, 26 vacation days, no layoff guarantee, employer paid pension plus 401k, etc.
i know many middle level managers whose (per hours worked) earnings don’t exceed mine ; and they’re upset with me and my employer, instead of theirs.
robert,
Sounds like your job is vulnerable to being outsourced.
@ almux
it was 800.000 a WEEK. now that is amazing. still, apple underestimated demand (once again). no new units until september here in germany (i guess t-mobile is getting punished by apple for selling so little of iphone 1).
i was in two shops today disguised as a normal user interested in smartphones. in the first shop (the phonehouse) the clerk told me that the iphone is a ripp off, they don’t carry it because they don’t want to, that the battery dies after 6 month and that you have to buy a new battery for 70 € (and it is not covered by waranty). when i asked how he knows that the battery dies in 6 month when the phone is only 3 weeks on the market he shrugged and said it was written in a magazin.
in the second shop (also not carring the iphone) they recommended the itc touch diamond, claiming that you can’t make a call and surf the internet at the same time (you can with the iphone), telling me that the tarif is way better than that for the iphone (actually way more expensive for the htc touch, you pay 35 € a month + 470 € for the device) and that the fancy ui of the touch is windows 6.1. when i asked if it wasn’t some custom htc flash ui and that after two clicks you are down in the same old windows menue structure, he said: “no, it’s the new windows mobile 6.1.!”
in the shops that carry it though, most of the clerks are very ecited about it. so there is hope here in germany.
@ robert
That’s exactly what Frank is talking about. Unions are killing US corporations. The only way they can survive is to send jobs abroad.
@ R2
And how will a plant in the US help those folks waiting for an iPhone in Oz (Australia)?
Oz is way closer to the factories in China that make the iPhone than it is to the US.
Nice, robert. Nothing like a hard working union man.
How is this any different than here in the States where you call the local AT&T;store and they tell you, “Oh we don’t have any in stock. You should simply order your iPhone from the Apple web site.”?
@ pastrychef
I recall from an Into to Management class – “Unions are caused by bad Management.”
If you treat people well and pay them well, you will not have problems. When the deck becomes unstacked in Walmarts’ favor, Walmart will be unionized. Because.

I worked at UPS for over 7 years. You worked your butt off.
I mean that, I was in great shape at that time.

HaHa- lets ship all the components from Asia to the US and then ship finshed units back to Australia.
That’s funny. You must work for a freight Co.
thethirdshoe,
I have to admit, I’ve never seen a fat UPS employee.
The pace has to be a killer.
ralph from berlin,
“i was in two shops today disguised as a normal user interested in smartphones.”
What does a normal user look like and how did you disguise yourself. Do you naturally appear abnormal, or at the opposite extreme, superior in appearance? Really super good looking and hot like David Hasselhoff? Just curious.
Oh, and I’m sorry to see you lost both of your pinky fingers.

Yeah, it’s only the most successful consumer electronic device of all time. Asshat.
“Yeah, it’s only the most successful consumer electronic device of all time.”
I thought it was either the television or radio.

so U.S. corps can pay a CEO $100 million per yr and when it tanks, another $100 million severance package, but they can’t afford decent salaries for middle & lower level workers?
