“The iPhone Country Count is now up to 78 countries and territories. Thanks to a keen reader, Croatia, Malta and Liechtenstein are getting the iPhone this year too! This list is based on announcements from the global carriers that have made contractual agreements with Apple. It will be updated as more countries are announced as well as the official launch dates,” AAPLInvestors.com reports.

“it doesn’t really bring more iPhone without major market like China, Korea. Unfortunately two major phone production countries are missed. I am really disappointed with Apple.”
Dude, keep your pants on. There are many nuances and complexities that few of us can appreciate in the negotiations, which I understand are ongoing. Consider that the iPhone will bring considerable competition against handset makers such as Samsung, so there is considerable vested interest in defending its home turf. Also, and others can chime in here, the iPhone may need to adapt to some local standards.
In addition, in countries like Russia and China, you are dealing with deep bureaucracies that make Washington look downright progressive. Negotiations can drag on for months to get approvals. And add to it that Apple wants their dealings to be profitable. Apple’s first responsibility is to its stockholders, who are the owners of the company. Steve Jobs didn’t get where he did by not being a tough negotiator, even if it means holding off for a few months.
As it is, worldwide demand for the iPhone 3G will be tremendous, and I would not be surprised if supplies are tight initially in response to demand. But if you do a head count of the available market for the first 78 countries, the potential numbers will be staggering.
To close so many deals in so little time means that a certain Mr. Jobs has probably had to travel all over the world, and I am sure that the toll on him must have been great. To have signed on 78 countries before the iPhone 3G goes on sale is significant. And it is simply a matter of time before China, Russia and South Korea join the party.
So you’re disappointed with Apple? I am anything but. Fast forward a couple of months and you will realize just how remarkable all of this really is.
Still no iPhone for Puerto Rico!!! What is wrong with this $@IT!!
Puerto Rico have AT&T;and all other major phone companies.
Anyone really know why Apple or AT&T;are not selling it here?
After all, it do work without any issues. The president of my company came to visit from Alabama and his iPhone worked perfectly.
I wrote an email to the FCC, no reply yet!
To me this is really something strange, that we can’t get it and other countries that are not even US territories or don’t have the infrastructure we have in place, either have it or will do shortly!
I asked an AT&T;representative and he claimed he didn’t know if it will ever be sold her in P.R.
@ha ha
LOL.. your such an anti apple troll that you actually took the time and metaphorically subjugated to your twisted reasoning? ahahaha
@jonesy,
“What’s number 78? The link says 77.”
It’s Petoria.
Ampar,
Thanks for the link earlier for things to do in Rohnert Park, CA (Sonoma Valley), but I’m not that lazy. I was looking for personal recommendations like, “I was there last year and this bar was happening on a Thursday night.” Etc.
But still thanks.
To Cubert:
(ok)
@ Ha, Ha
Treason and treachery? That
@ Jubie,
I merely pointed out your lack of good judgment and poor exercise of literary technique.
“LOL.. your such an anti apple troll that you actually took the time and metaphorically subjugated to your twisted reasoning? ahahaha”
By the way, I’ve been a patron of Apple since 1980. I reckon this adds to your repertoire of idiotic statements, fanboi. You are the poster child of America’s infatuation with self-inflicted ignorance.
P.S. Cubert: Can you tell I was bored? Next time I’ll see if I can find those reptilian twin hookers from Sonoma that seek out strangers for a night of tequila shots and hide the pogo stick.
Poor Crabs, thoughts escape him. Try concentrating, Crabs. It’s the process of focused analysis and reflection that leads to a convergence of reason and understanding. Take your time, Crabs, I realize that this mental activity is foreign for you.
Ampar,
Regular old hookers would be fine. No need for reptilian ones.
Make that regular old YOUNG hookers. No desire here for a gum job.
It wasn’t too long ago that many of us were lamenting Apple’s underdog position. Apple’s still the underdog, but lamenting we are not.
Onward and upward!
Apple’s plan: surround China and Russia with all carrier countries until enough black market smuggling and iPhone-envy force them to submit to Job’s will.
Why no South Korea?
Count again, people. 61 countries. There are several countries with more than one carrier.
Can someone spank me? I need the attention.
Who said that. I want to be pinched instead and squeel like pig!
@ ha ha
If you were as clever as you think you are, you would have the IQ of a peanut.
Now fuck off, you turkey, you are getting dull.
@Haha;
You are the poster child of America’s infatuation with self-inflicted arrogance.
Or is that “afflicted”?
This country count is nice – however for those of us living in the USA who still can’t get an iPhone because there is not AT& T service in our area all this country counting is a bit empty.
I want to scream every time I see the AT &T;commercial that tells me they have wireless service in Bangkok or where ever in the so-called third world but I can’t get it in Northwest Minnesota or most of North Dakota.
Can apple build enough phones to keep up with demand? If they were hoping to get 25 countries when they placed the order for the 3G phone, but now have 78 countries waiting…..sounds like the rest of the year is going to be flat out selling phones (initial sales staggered in different countries, and holiday demand) Wow.
Put iWork software all over this thing and something greater will accure
To trex67: They accounted for multiple carriers in the numbering of the list.
This is some iPhone blitzkrieg. I hear Neville Chamberlain is off to see Steve Jobs in Cupertino to see if they can come to some sort of “understanding” regarding the worldwide mobile phone market and Apple’s intentions with respect to the same…
