RUMOR: Apple to debut ‘Mac Fusion’ developer machine

TUAW has “received a tip showing what appears to be the Mac Nano computer that we’ve all wanted — and it looks to be aimed towards the developer crowd,” Cory Bohon reports for TUAW.

MacDailyNews Note: The text in the image reads, in part: Building your applications for the Mac has never been easier. Mac Fusion was designed exclusively for new developers wishing to port their existing programs to the Mac without breaking the bank. Mac Fusion allows you to explore the power and stability of Max OS X while keeping the ability to run alternate operating systems such as WIndows or Linux, via Boot Camp.

“The pictures appear to show a Mac geared towards developers on Windows and Linux systems. ‘Leave Windows behind. Build your Apps for OS X’ states the title. While we are extremely cautious about rumors like these right before WWDC, we did have a rumor that a ‘new Mac’ or at least an updated Mac might be released,” Bohon reports.

  1. Take this with a LARGE dose of skepticism. My question about this is, why?

I could see the Mac Mini sheathed in brushed metal, maybe. But it would not be just for developers.

My bigger question is, where do the frigtards who make these fakes get all the time to do it, and why do they bother?

There are some real losers out there. Talented, but losers.

With only a couple of hours until the real thing, I’ll sit back and wait. Reality can be a lot of fun.

  2. New case for the Mac mini? Undoubtedly with a bigger standard HDD. Possibly with higher end built-in graphics or even a PCIe slot for a separate graphics card? Charcoal exterior (possibly aluminum?) looks better than the current white plastic. The iMac dumped the white plastic last year and the device shown in the picture (real or not) would look better next to the rest of your A/V equipment.

This might be a fake. But it looks good to me.

  3. yah, fake. As a programmer who dabbles in programming for OSX this really has no purpose, as others have mentioned a Mac Mini won’t break any developers bank (even independent devs should be able to handle it) and any copy of OSX comes with XCode for Free! What would be the advantage to having a dedicated box for developers? Most developers would want hardware like their client is using so they can check things against how the client would be experiencing them, having some powerhouse dev station does not help, dedicated compiler station maybe, but not dev station.

  4. Nice try, but the design of the “leaked” page is based on Mac mini’s page, which hasn’t been updated since March 2006 (apart from some cosmetic changes to unify the entire website). Starting from June 2007, all Apple’s product pages are based on a different layout.

  5. Now this just pisses me off. Now you got me wanting a prosumer Mac again. A real one, not this one. One where I can change the video card if I want, add a second drive, have a couple of open slots for something like an eSATA card. And a price starting at $1199 and going up to $1999 fully loaded.

    I can only dream.

  6. Wouldn’t you want a development machine to be larger and jam packed with every type of port imaginable such as extra PCI, USB, esc. so that you can see if there are any bugs? Also why have a slim little computer for a developer who wouldn’t really care about looks?
