Apple files massive iPhone patent application; hints at GPS, video chat

“Apple has filed for a patent that addresses virtually every aspect of the iPhone, including potential additions such as GPS mapping, media messaging, video calls, and voice commands,” Aidan Malley reports for AppleInsider.

“While Apple has filed for patents covering individual aspects of the iPhone experience, including text messaging, a new patent application published late last week promises to roll all these and more into a single, comprehensive document — one which credits Apple chief Steve Jobs as first in the list of inventors,” Malley reports.

“In addition to describing much of what the iPhone is capable of today, the patent for a ‘Touch Screen Device’ would also safeguard Apple’s ability to implement several features that have yet to appear in any hardware or in a software revision for the cellphone. On a software level, the company describes simple additions such as instant messaging and a version of Safari capable of playing in-line content such as Quicktime movies or Flash without having to temporarily leave the browser environment,” Malley reports.

“Further welcome additions described in the publication would include a dedicated blogging client, Java software downloads, MMS picture and video messaging, and support for voice-activated commands as well as audio capture,” Malley reports.

  1. @HueyLong, that right we need some new Democrat regime lies deceit to fill in the gap.

Get it through your heads people all politician from all parties are cut from the same cloth, even if they start out wanting to do the right thing the system has them out numbered.

Government is for the rich of the rich, by the rich. Face it you have to have boat loads of cash to run a campaign, that bars 80-90 of the population.

  2. Thank you. You and I are proof that not all Mac users are libs.

Yep, although there’s still hope that both of you might come to your senses – but in ron‘s case that’s a very small hope that can only be expressed using quantum mechanics.

Of course, that’s science and the sworn enemy of all Republicans.

    Have a nice day.

  3. Okay, here’s the official list of things they WILL do at WWDC:

    1) iPhone 2.0 software

    2) BIG batch of first-wave approved

    3) iPhone 2.0 device to go with it.

    4) AT&T;exclusivity (in the USA) will CONTINUE. These devices will accept sims from iPhone-capable cel networks in other countries.

    5) AT&T;will announce free Wi-Fi hotspots for all iPhone accounts.

    6) Mac Pro update

Slave of your own choice… we all are to certain degree. Although she doesn’t look like you can convince her to buy one for you I think you should try to convince her to buy one for her… it is called “proof of concept”… once the management agrees then you can buy one for yourself too.
You chance to do a zero-day exploit of the iPhone 2.0 will begin on June 9th.
    Good luck!

  5. Mac Daddy –

I didn’t say you’d like ’em. But I don’t think there’s any reason to believe they’re going to change it. “Multi-year exclusivity” probably means just what it says. Apple’s always been anti-competitive. Why stop now?

  6. @Poo who said it was futile, I have just resigned myself to the realization that the government will line the pockets of there friends tax payers be dammed. Wasting your time trying to change that FACT, is just so much waisted effort that could be channeled into something good like charity work or playing with my kids.

  7. Ron:
Romney has sworn his allegiance to a fraudulent system that hijacks personal autonomy and threatens adherents with expulsion from their own families if that system is questioned.
He’s slick and eloquent, but like the people he follows, he’s a fraud. We don’t need any more fraud in the White House.

  8. @Jeff

Miriam Webster defines futile as 1 : serving no useful purpose : completely ineffective <efforts to convince him were futile>

Your words… “resigned”, “wasting your time”… sounds futile to me.

    Razor blades in aisle 6.

  9. “If I can convince my wife to let me get one of these rumored iPhones with 3g and gps,, my life would be happier and simpler, the U.S. would be powered by nuclear breeder reactors, EV cars would have 2000 mile range, all Muslims would love Americans, and Mitt Romney would become the next president. “

wow, from heaven to hell in one sentence….

“it would be a shame if people didn’t vote for Mitt because he is a mormon. they shouldn’t vote for him because his policies make bush look like a genius.”

  10. I have been trying to make up my mind on if I should buy iPhone for the past year. After reading about the 3G that will hopefully come out soon I have decided to finally get one. Could anyone out there give me some input on a few things if Jobs talks about it Monday:
-If you think it will be available immediately after WWDC?
-Will it be somewhat possible to get upon release and the best place to get one (AT&T;, Apple store, Online)?
    -Price?

    Thanks!
