Apple has made it official. Now, anyone who buys a Mac for college can get a free iPod touch (or iPod nano, your choice).

If you’re a student, faculty, or staff member and you buy a Mac before September 15, you can get a free iPod touch or iPod nano. All new Macintosh computers and the Configure-to-order versions of these products are eligible, except for Mac mini and 17” iMac.

When you buy your Mac, simply purchase an 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB iPod touch and qualify for a rebate of US$299 or an 8GB iPod nano (silver, pink, blue, green, black, or red) and qualify for a rebate of $199. After you receive your Mac and iPod, just submit your claim online by October 15.

  1. “How do they know if you are really a student or not?”

i n the stores they do this wild thing, they ask to see your student ID…

online, they ask you to display ethics and honesty.

    Tommy Boy has shown his….

  2. Not for high K-12 students, though, only college. Too bad; my daughter is starting 3rd grade; would have been a perfect excuse to get me a free touch. Now I have to wait for another ten years before I can do that (and by then, she’ll want that touch, or whatever ends up being the equivalent free device) for herself…

  3. @Tommy Boy

you are correct on that one. Luckily where I work now I got a 15% off on the dual 2.5 G5 in 2004 as soon as it was shipping by ordering through cdw.com Though I believe you would need a company account to do that.

  4. FYI,

I just bought a Mac Pro with the education discount only a few days ago. Just called Apple and they honored this education promo for my purchase. Now I’m getting a free Touch.

So it’s not ~just~ the computers they have listed on the site. You just have to call Apple.

A friend who works for a college recently bought a new Mac. She didn’t have her ID with her, but when she could login to her college e-mail account in the store, that was good enough identification to get the education discount.

    FWIW.
