“Ever since Boot Camp appeared on the scene, there have been several comments about Macs being better Windows machines than Windows machines. The weird thing is it’s actually true,” Steven Frank, co-founder of Panic, blogs.
“I won’t lie to you — I use Windows occasionally. It’s important for me as a Mac developer to use Windows once in a while, because it’s a fantastic lesson on how do absolutely everything wrong when designing software,” Frank writes. “The other 90% of the time, I use Windows because it is a popular gaming API. I’ve maintained a succession of PCs over the years just to play a handful of games that never got ported to the Mac. (I’m looking at you, Half-Life series! Bastards.)”
“Having just set up XP in Boot Camp again over the weekend, I’m amazed again by how much better the experience is than using a Windows box built by an actual Windows box vendor,” Frank writes.

VISTA NIGHTMARE STORY No.?
One of my students bought a Sony laptop loaded with Vista and it took her four days to send it by email and two days to get the damn machine to print her paper.
She’s now thinking of getting a refund and buying a Mac.
Well if your a teahcer tell her to get a mac, or she may have a unhappy life.
PS: Camil Milk How you doing? Can you send me some Juice like Figoa and mango please
California is where the Personal Computer (Apple I) was invented, and it’s the world’s capital of innovation. I drove through California south (San Diego) to north (San Francisco) and other than the LA area, it’s the best, most beatiful trip you can make. I’ve done it many times, through the higway 5, 101 and 1. And I think San Francisco is the greatest city ever.
Texas…. well, I’d LOVE to say it sucks just to rub it in someone’s face, but the fact is, I had a great time in Austin and I loved the city and its people. I don’t think I’d like living in Texas (I was born next to the ocean, and that matters to me), but come on! Every single place in this planet has its charm and people who loves it. Plus, Texas’s historical value is undeniable.
So, how about showing some respect for California? And for Texas too?
Surely the world is going to recognise that there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with Microsoft and its products??
Aren’t they?
@qka… you’re so right. Upstate is unbelievably beautiful. I used to live in Corning. Right about now the whole countryside looks like a bowl of tricks cereal. High School football on friday nights, the whole town out. Upstate NY is amazing.
@awesome… my brain hurt reading your post.
@Grifterus… currently living in Mission Viejo and you’re right. The drive from SD to SF is something everyone should experience once. The key is taking the 79 in San Juan Capistrano and cutting over to the coast, you go around LA and get to go on the old hwy 1 until Malibu.
Anthony sad
If that is not a TOTAL disgusting mess for “So-long-ny”.. , anyone who actually purchases a PC, by choice…is
…. What a Complete Retard.
I’m with you Anthony!!!!! I’m thinking about giving up my 120K a year job so I don’t have to use a “crappy” PC and be a “Complete Retard”….. What’s more important – having a good career or acting like a Big Shot on MDN???? Woooooo Hooooo Steve!!!!
Look up Primavera P3 moron. There is no analog in the PC world. If you are a Engineering/Construction Project Controls Specialist, it’s P3 (or P3/EC 5.0) or nothing.
So come down from your narrow minded high horse and realize that although people like me love my Macs, I NEED a PC to make a living – and a company like mine (with over 3500 Computers) aren’t going to pay $1200 for a Mac PLUS the cost of Windows when a $700 Dell on lease for 3 years will work just fine. .
Grow up Fanboy …. This is real world BIG boy stuff. Stick with cheerleading home users. I tend to agree with you in that market.
Cripes sakes – you guys all have your humor bone taken out? A ballarina in Texas – a JOKE?
Good grief – I get a lecture from the PC crowd. Let’s all go to the bathroom sitting down…
Steve Frank’s article is a big “DUH”
You know, it seems that monopolies have an interesting position in the market place.
The stuff they make can suck almost to the point of you wanting to commit suicide, yet people still go out and buy or use it! And they keep doing it!! Wash, rinse, repeat. Talk about stupid stupid stupid!!!
I have a friend who has a Sony Vaio laptop and we had the same experience as Steven’s (almost identical in fact). She’s sworn off Sony and PCs in general now, and she’ll be getting a the Mac next time she gets a computer.
I have another friend who bought a new PC recently (not a Sony in this case) – when I found out she’d spent more for her PC than what a 20″ iMac would have cost (before the recent updates), I freaked. I thought she was going to spend very little $$.
Oh well, each to their own. Some people are suckers for punishment, and totally get what they deserve.
For shame… thoust ignore me.
A plague o’ all your houses!
Smile when you say that, saddle pard….
It’s because all the big Windows box makers compete based on price and market share. The cheaper the components and materials, the better. That’s why Windows runs better on a Mac.
If you need a separate Windows rig you are much better off to just build your own. It’s not rocket science. There are plenty of books and websites to guide you through it. You just purchase compatable components that fit your requirements and assemble them. There isn’t any soldering required and if you are careful you theoretically shouldn’t have any problems. Of course you can receive defective items, but if you deal with a reputable outfit like NewEgg it’s easy to get replacements. Load it with a fresh OEM copy of XP Home (Pro is an unnecessary ripoff for most people) and you don’t have to deal with the bloat/crapware that the PC makers stuff in them. It makes for a much better experience. Of course, if your needs are met by Apple’s hardware, then it would make more sense to use a dual boot Mac. I still wish Apple would make a decent rig for gaming.
Dell spokesperson: “Dell has been offering businesses that have a Premier Page set up the option to order systems with XP, Vista or Vista with XP downgrade rights. There is no extra charge for the downgrade rights.”
Good Lord! Did someone actually say that with a straight face?

Sure. Apple hardware sucks running Windows compared to real Windows machines, but at least you’re following Steve’s plan to migrate you off Mac OS X.
@qka
“Upstate NY is not NY City! That’s why we ever so often try to secede from that misbegotten union.”
Kudos! As a transplanted Upstate New Yorker myself (grew up in the Adirondacks (Bleecker!), now living in MA) I get SO tired of explaining this to people. There really is life outside of NYC. Hard to believe, but true nonetheless.

On topic: I’d agree my iMac is by far the best Windows machine I’ve ever owned, but then again, I switched to Mac over 2 years ago to get far, far AWAY from Windows after putting up with years of it’s headaches. It’s wonderful thing to now have Windows where it belongs. Just an incidental app running under Parallels when needed (very rarely these days). <click, poof, gone!>
FWIW, I also work in IT. Macs are currently “unsupported” at my company (we dropped all “support” a few of years ago), but at least management is now taking a second look and reconsidering the Mac as viable. I’m looking forward to the day I can be the first Sys Admin in a hard-core Windows camp to have Mac on my desktop.

MW= straight? (as in… Hmmm… I wonder if you wonder… ) <LOL>
Upstate NY is a lot like south Alabama.
Syracuse found that out when they came to play Auburn a few years ago.

“Believe me on this. Please. I have descended into college football’s Grand Canyon. I have stood in its Alps. I have gazed at its ocean sunset. I have attended a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala. And I’ve been changed forever.”

What’s all this talk about Galveston, San Frnsisco and NY? I got a better idea….come to Montreal…we got girls…lots of’em.
Historic?
In primary school we went to the local Roman ruins built at around 78 AD.
Now THAT’S old.
I would pay a lot of money for Half Life / Steam to come to Mac natively.
