TV shows, movies coming soon to Apple’s UK iTunes Store

“Trusted sources inside [Apple] have told Ars Technica that Apple plans to introduce movies and TV shows to iTunes UK very soon—as in, a couple of weeks. Things are apparently all set up and ready to go, so it’s just a matter of flipping the switch after the dull roar has died down about [yesterday’s] Apple event,” Jacqui Cheng reports for Ars Technica.

Cheng reports, “No details were provided on which shows or movies would be available, so we’re left to speculate about that. Did someone say ‘Dr. Who?’ If iTunes UK gets movies and TV shows before the end of August, it may not be long before the rest of the continent catches up.”

  1. I expect movies will be priced too near to the price of DVDs and in the case of older movies they will probably cost more even though you get less for your money with a download. iTunes albums often cost more than the CD versions so movies will be the same.

  2. It had been so much better if there had been one store for all of europe instead of one for each country. Unfortunately it’s the studios to blame for this, as allways. They recomended Steve that it would be easier to have one store for each country instead of one for all. Ofcourse EU isn’t very fond of this since the price for tunes differs between the stores depending on the currency. Brits pay in British Pound Stirling, EMU countries pay in Euro and Swedes pay in krowns. I guess the studios wasn’t thinking of Apple’s best or even the consumers best but rather theire own best way to cash in as much as posible.

There’s been talk about video and tv-content for us in Europe ever since it was first released on iTS in the US but it’s been very quiet the last months. I hope they’v managed to come up with an agreement that makes it posible for the “Old world” to join the “New world” in bying visual content from iTS. I also hope that Steve has managed to convince EU that it isn’t his fault it is the way it is but rather the fault of the greedy studios…

  3. Apple said they would be bringing TV shows and movies to the UK in 2007. It’s 2007, there are no TV shows or movies on the UK store at the moment, so they are due soon.

Forgive me if I’m missing something, but how is this news?

Wake me up when we have a date, otherwise this is warmed over staleness masquerading as a news story.
