Apple is preparing to introduce a slew of new capabilities and features to iPhone via software updates, a post on PDA Live.com claims. The post is based upon inside info from an Apple employee
Rumored additions to iPhone include a file browser similar to Leopard Finder, Disk Mode, Spotlight search, special version of iWork, widescreen keyboard for all apps, Clipboard with select, copy, paste, iChat, “real” third-party app support, ringtones, and more.
Full post here.
MacDailyNews Note: This is an unconfirmed rumor. It also sounds like most every iPhone users’ wish list. We’ll leave it up to you to decide if that helps support or discount this rumor. The best we can offer (and it isn’t much): it’s fairly probable that at least one of the items on this laundry list will come true as Apple has already stated that iPhone (and Apple TV) would gain features and capabilities via free software updates over time.

@ ChrissyOne, Safari crashing: Yup. When I saw this headline, that’s what I was hoping for.
Instead, it turns out the article is total click bait. Clue #1: “Also mail will see an upgrade so you can add accounts without doing so through itunes.” Dude, tap Home, Settings, Mail, Add Account… sheesh.
That said, what I’d like to see from this list that’s at least plausible: disk mode (but no file browser — iPod doesn’t have a file browser either), widescreen keyboard, ringtones (that last one I bet is a certainty, eventually).
MW “Blood”, as in, when are the “Blood on the Touchscreen” articles gonna start showing up?
@bobchr
new tab new page whats the difference. You can do essentially that by hitting the softkey in the lower right hand corner that looks like a book icon with a number in it.
“Open in New Tab” would be handy when surfing to click on a link and have that link open in a new page. What you suggest involves opening a new page and manually typing in the link I want. I’d say there’s a big difference between that and simply clicking in such a way that a whole new page opens.
Despite improvements, Edge can be dog-slow, and I’d like to be able to keep browsing the page I’m on until the new page opens. Open in New Tab would make this very easy.
@ Predrag
i agree it sounds kinda silly to complain about the size of a headphone jack, but it’s obvious to me that you havent spent 100-200 bucks on nice headphones… if you did, you would also be pissed that they no longer work, without a 3 inch audio dildo sticking out of your new iphone.
dont belittle people’s complaints merely because they dont affect you.
peace.
Since there’s only 8GB of space, I hope the functionality Apple adds doesn’t eat up too much of the freespace. Although I still have about 4GBs available.
TowerTone — my other sarcastic comment was going to be:
“that’s why i only date women with no gag reflex”
but i thought it might be too crass for this board …
This is just a repeat of a rumor from Howard Forum last week. AppleInsider already picked it up, and then cancelled the article because there was a doubt over the claims. Didn’t MDN also quote AppleInsider then, too?
Is anyone else having problems displaying MacDailyNews on their iPhone? The Css is not there and the layout is all over the place.
@ UndercoverMacBrother
i dunno, cuz thanks to firefox and adblock plus… i never ever ever view this site from another browser. this site and their over abundance of ads is one of the main reasons i went back to firefox!!
Belkin has a nice retractable mini stereo cable that goes from the iPhone to the Prius mp3 jack. Quite nifty that it winds up like my travel mouse. No bulky adapter.
No excess cord to tangle.

My understanding is, the recessed headphone jack is actually a ‘feature’, believe it or not. With this design the body of the headphone plug hits against the rim of the hole in the case if the cable is tugged from side-to-side. This keep all pressure off of the headphone jack inside of the iPhone and over the course of time, will keep it from breaking loose from the circuit board or becoming damaged.
Sure you don’t see the design benefits now, but give it a year or so. You’ll be glad Apple opted for this design eventhough it’s a bit inconvenient now.
A software update will be nice, and I fully expect one soon, but not with all those features. I’m expecting stuff like mms and mass SMS, iChat, maybe the ability to capture video. And custom ringtones. stuff like that would answer many prayers.

>My understanding is, the recessed headphone jack is actually a ‘feature’…
>The headphone jack is actually standard
So, it’s all the other manufacturers of headphones that don’t fit that are really nonstandard? It’s great that Apple has a new feature. However, labeling this as a a standard headphone jack is misrepresenting the product. Apple should provide a free converter to those who have already purchased and then change their ads to reflect the product accurately…
I would like to propose not to hold back until you get enough amount of money to order all you need! You can get the loans or secured loan and feel yourself fine
