“After an initial delay, Apple TV finally may be on the way,” Priya Ganapati reports for TheStreet.com.
Ganapati reports, “Many Apple customers report that their credit cards are finally being charged for the product, a sign that the company just might meet its deadline of ‘mid-March.'”
“Apple had indicated that TV orders would likely ship on March 20,” Ganapati reports.
Ganapati reports, “Though Apple TV has been overshadowed by the iPhone, which was also unveiled at Macworld at the beginning of 2007, the set-top box could offer a significant boost to the company’s fortunes.”

MacDailyNews Note: Since Tuesday, multiple MacDailyNews readers also have reported having their credit cards charged for their Apple TV orders. Apple customer service says that credit cards are only actually charged when the product is “ready for shipping.”

Apple TV is an overpriced, overhyped (at least on MDN) piece of shit.
According to the Apple Store website, Apple TV shipping in 3-5 business days.
computer in different part of house from TV.
isn´t that a problem?
I gotta go turn on my computer (run upstairs) start the download thing (wait, wait), run back downstairs to get it coordinated on the TV…wait something isn´t working, got to run back upstairs to the tV…
ad nauseum…oh yeah I am really going to want to do that to watch some crap quality movie on my 52-inch Sharp HDTV.
Gee, I guess Apple had better just give up on the whole Apple TV idea. Looks like all of you brainiacs know a hell of a lot more than Steve Jobs does. I’m sure if he knew how you all felt he would never have tried. He needs to start floating all of his ideas past your brilliant and perceptive minds, instead of developing soon to be flops like Apple TV and the iPhone. I am truly humbled by this vast store of expertise. Sounds like some potential corporate CEOs talking here. By the way, have any of you moved up from flipping burgers at McDonalds?
Man, the “Microsoft-Funded” bloggers are in full throttle today. Give me a break. It isn’t going to end well for Billy, so get over it. Apple TV rocks!
My only beef is that the Mac Mini doesn’t have the latest Airport Standard in it (802.11N, I believe). So until there’s a Mac Mini/Apple TV connection, I’m going to just wait. Shouldn’t be too long, though.
It’s here! When I arrived home today I had a package waiting for me my Brand NEW Apple TV! I am going to set it up right now and start downloading BSG (BattleStar Galactica) and the office my other favorite!
I am sure that I am not the only one, I will write a review tomorrow once I get it up and running and with a mac the should be a snap!
Sweet, my whole DVD collection is on itunes. My Youtube downloads are on itunes. Home movies are on itunes. Video podcasts are on itunes. What’s wrong with piping 1000s of my videos, on demand, to the TV? Isn’t this the ipod of video? I mean, ipod pipes 1000s of audio files tou your ears the way you like it- walking, driving, flying. Apple TV pipes your video the way you like it- on your big tv while you sit on the couch. When ipod first came out VERY few really “got” it.
Apple TV is going to be huge for independent content and video podcasts. Finally consumers will have a well designed, non-geek tool that will allow them to view http://www.hungryflix.com movies in the family room. This could be a huge device. But, this is a 1.0 version–can’t wait to see next year’s rev with maybe an optical drive and 200gb HD.
If you are looking to download movies for your iPod or Apple TV please check out hungryflix.com
It still needs some kind of DVD support. That would be the kicker for me.
What kind of DVD support. I ripped Blazing Saddles with MacTheRipper in about 30 minutes, then Handbrake converted the file to H.264 with deinterlace and double pass in about another hour. The result was a nice 1.3gb file that is darn close to the original DVD. Obvioulsy it would be better to be able to play the DVD file. I’m hoping for 720p downloads from iTunes. Come on Steve!
>”ITMS video comes out 6 months earlier than the DVD”
“They do? Got an example?”
All currently airing TV shows. Try finding the current season of Lost at Best Buy every week after it airs.
iTunes = Instant Gratification.
Apple TV v1.0 is a real piece of technological crap. No 1080p video, no Dolby 5.1 audio, no DVR, no sale. Almost as if Michael Dell designed it.
Blu Ray on a PS3 is the best deal for HDTV 1080p quality.
Maybe Steve will pull his head out of his ass and allow v2.0 to provide at least 1080i video quality.
I for one am not going to connect this $300 p.o.s. to my $5,000 1080p Sony and watch it produce compression artifacts.
Neither will Steve!

i am confused, I just started ripping season 2 of “24” and I only used “handbrake ” to do it all,, am I missing something, would it be better if I used MactheRipper 1st
hot
Mac the Ripper strips the DVD for burning the Video_TS file to disc, but doesn’t transport or export to iTunes. You then need a program like VisualHub to do that.
(or Handbrake, of course)

30 minutes? Are you still using2.66? If you donate to MTR, GeezerButz & Co. will send you a link to v3.0 r14d (I believe) that can rip in half the time.
Also, the reason for DVD support would be for playing live DVDs from your Mac streamed to the AppleTV. The functions woud be controled via Frontrow. Not everyone wants to store their entire library on HD, plus you could still rent or borrow.Lets hope.
“Try finding the current season of Lost at Best Buy every week after it airs. “
Better than that, it’s always online for free on abc.com the day it airs. I guess you could also go buy it on iTunes if you wanted to.
