Apple releases iTunes Repair Tool for Vista, advises Windows iTunes users wait to upgrade to Vista

Apple has released Tunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0 which will repair permissions for important files required by iTunes to play your iTunes Store purchases.

Basically, some Vista sufferers found that they couldn’t play their iTunes-purchased songs after “upgrading” to Windows Vista. This tool corrects the permissions issue.

Just to be clear: Tunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0 is not for Mac users.

As for other issues with Vista and iTunes, “Apple recommends that customers wait to upgrade Windows until after the next release of iTunes which will be available in the next few weeks.”

  1. There is no reason to upgrade at all, i still have to dualboot in order to play movies. VLC droppes frames (with 25% total cpu usage) under vista bussines but it playes the movies just fine under xp. wtf?

  2. Apple releases the first Vista fix. Microsoft stands around with its thumb up its ass. Ya know, this has gotta burn Gates’ biscuits, knowing that Apple has provided the first mini-service pack for Vista. Do ya think Gates called Jobs to thank Apple? Nah, me either.

  3. To be even safer, Apple should recommend that people only upgrade to Vista AFTER its second release, not the BETA release Microsoft is selling now.

Of course it is more like XP Service Pack 3, since Microsoft dropped all of the major portions of Vista’s update (which they don’t bother telling consumers — only tech savvy people know that). Oh, well.

There is always 2012, Microsoft. Maybe you could hire RUSH to get out your message then.

  4. Hmm….Vista “breaks” iTunes.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but I’m old enough to remember “DOS ain’t done until Lotus can’t run.”

And then again, maybe all Windows software developers are going to have to “fix” what Vista breaks first time out of the box.

  5. Did you guys catch this:

The next release of iTunes, which will be available in the next few weeks? I wonder if this will be a major release to coincide with a new iPod?

  6. “Apple recommends that customers wait to upgrade Windows until after the next release of iTunes which will be available in the next few weeks.”

Because the new version of iTunes will be released to support the true Video iPod (aka. the iPhone minus the phone) “in the next few weeks”!!

Yay! I already have the money burning a hole in my pocket!

  7. The release information that iTunes is going to be updated in the next few weeks is a huge leak – intentional none-the-less of couse.

    Special Event commeth:

    New iTunes:
    – Now includes HD movies
    – New iPod HD (full-screen touch-screen iPod that holds HD content. 40 GB or 100 GB). Wifi?… Probably not. I mean, why?…
