“Apple Computer Taiwan opened Taiwan’s first large-scale Apple retail store in Taipei on December 23, while Sony will establish a large retail shop inside a new large department store scheduled to open early next year, according to industry sources,” Ruby Huang and Adam Hwang report for DigiTimes.
“The new Apple Computer store… has three floors with a total floor space of about 397 square meters (4,270 square feet)… Unlike retail outlets set up and operated by Taiwan-based sales agents, the new store represents Apple Computer’s brand image in Taiwan,” Huang and Hwang report.

Europe’s left in the shadow. Most box stores don’t sell Macs, ’cause the typical customer wants the cheapest possible PC, no matter what kinda crap they get.
One sales person asked me: “How do you explain a customer that here’s a computer and then here’s a computer too, but it’s different?”
If that’s an answer to the question: “Why don’t you sell Macs?”…
I guess they hire all kinds of idiots.
Imagine a person who sells cars for living to come up with BS like: “How do you explain a customer that here’s a car and then here’s a car too, but it’s Diesel-powered?”
That person wouldn’t be selling cars for too long. Well, no way in hell that person would have ended up having the job in the first place.

taiwan has a HUGE windows/pc user base in comparison to mac users… so the fact that apple decided to take the position of setting up its own shop says a lot about the market shifting (or so i hope)…
ah, the sweet wind of change… hopefully the irony of most mac laptops are being made in taiwan but not used by its people won’t be an irony anymore a year from today…
