Apple today released Apple Remote Desktop 3.1 Client and Admin. ARD 3.1 Client is recommended for all users and addresses numerous issues related to overall reliability, usability and compatibility.
NOTE: It is recommended that Apple Remote Desktop version 3.1 Clients can only be managed by Apple Remote Desktop version 3.1 Administration software (see below). Please ensure that have upgraded your Apple Remote Desktop Administration software to version 3.1 before upgrading your clients.
ARD 3.1 Admin is recommended for all users and addresses numerous issues related to overall reliability, usability and compatibility. It includes specific fixes for:
– remote lights out management of Xserve
– scanning computers on the local network
– installation of software meta-packages
– authentication when using directory services
– execution of AppleScript and Automator workflows
– compatibility with third party VNC viewers and servers

Same name but very different software. Apple Remote Desktop does much more than Windows Remote Desktop! “Apples and Oranges” in this case.
Leopard will have many of the ARD capabilities build into iChat. The Apple version has some serious admin capabilities for numerous clients.

ARD does much more than just remotely viewing and controlling a computer. It also does inventory reports, application installs and updates for multiple computers simultaneously, and is a great aide when using NetRestore and a Mac OS X server to restore a hard drive image for a roomful of computers.

New iChat will have DESKTOP SHARING. aka remote ASSISTANCE. NOT remote desktop.
Remote desktop is to allow one person to administer a computer remotely or monitor one. the new iChat will let you share your desktop with another person, thats it.
