Apple debuts new iPod + iTunes ad

Apple has begun airing a new iPod + iTunes TV commercial featuring the song “Love Train” by Wolfmother and the same silhouetted dancers with iPods and white-corded earbud headphones as in its previous iPod + iTunes ads. The current ad features psychedelic background colors and a 60’s-style influence.

  1. New iPod ad features a crazy idiot dancing around like their finger is in a light socket… loud “music”… crazy colored backgrounds…

    It’s a *different* ad??

    I hadn’t noticed….

  2. I dance like that when im alone… with my ipod… so to say people dont is just your assumption ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />

“nothing new”? are you stupid, thats some real art there. It looks uber sweet!

MDN word: Dead, like your brains.

  3. I think the ads would be more productive if they showed people using the calendar or the games or going through the address book or waking up to the iPod alarm or checking an address or watching a movie or … forget it.

I like the colors – now where did I place those shroons?

  4. I think the ads would be more productive if they showed people using the calendar…

Yes!! Apple needs to get off their butts and do something to increase market share!

Or I’m going to get Creative! or Rhapsodized! Ooooh, I’m feeling the Urge!

  5. Anybody getting as irritated with MacDailyNews’ new pop under ads, as I am?

It was bad enough that they existed at all before, but now they include an obnoxious voice over that can’t be ignored. Firefox doesn’t seem able to block these ads.

Hey, MDN, I don’t want a free this or that. I especially don’t want it if I have to complete a survey.

Advertise, but not with these invaders.

  6. my not quite 2.5 year old iMac running Jaguar cannot play that

I call BS. My 3-year-old 1 GHz PPC PowerMac running Tiger, with Unison running in the background and Azureus running in another logged-in account, played the video without the slightest hiccup.

  7. Yo Thurman… haven’t you heard of Pith Helmet? haven’t seen a poop up or pood under or poop over for so long, I almost forgot what you were blathering about…

As for the ad… those who are exlaiming their dislike for it – how many times did you watch it before you thought it wasn’t catching your attention? AND if you can do better – sweeter – then Do It..

Or as my MDN-MW says – lighten up “already”

  8. i somewhat agree with lordrobin. my SIX year old dual 450mhz g4 tower can play it flawlessly. however, my equally old 700mhz pentium iii has problems with it.

on the other hand, my 900mhz g3 ibook (which IS about 2 1/2 years old) can’t play it.

apple’s h.264 seems to love simd. the old sse of the p6 architecture doesn’t seem to be enough, though the equally old altivec of the early g4s seems to be. g3s are just left out in the cold, as they have no simd instructions at all.

on that note, the pentium iii seemed to play it a BIT smoother than my ibook did. not smooth enough to claim that a five year old laptop (which would probably be a mobile pentium iii) could run that video decently, however.

i wonder how well the first tibooks handle it? =)

  9. John: “Not as many comments on MDN as their used to be a few months back…. people starting to move on I see.”

You are correct. Same old stories regurigitated over and over by MDN plus tidal wave of advertising plus boring Apple news (as in none)….its time to move on.

Why no news about software that runs on Macs (other than from Apple)? I know why, because any news item with Microsoft in it gives MDN something to whine about.
