“You’ll forgive me if I seem a little confused these days. Despite the fact that I work in a lab full of Macs, I spend more of my time lately staring at Windows XP than at Mac OS X,” James Galbraith writes for Macworld. “It’s not that I’m mulling over a platform switch—rather, this XP overload is part of Macworld Lab’s efforts to see how Microsoft’s operating system performs on Apple hardware now that software exists that enables you to boot into XP on an Intel-based Mac. With the help from our sister publication, PC World, we’ve been running the WorldBench 5 real-word benchmark suite on all of our Intel systems to gauge cross-platform performance.”
Galbraith reports, “Even with Boot Camp, it still takes a couple of hours to set these systems up. But once running, they’ve been very stable… the Macs running Windows gave these PCs a run for their money, with the 2.16GHz MacBook Pro turning in the fastest scores on three of the five individual tests. The build-to-order MacBook configuration also tied the 2.16GHz HP Compaq in the sixth test…”

I read that Apple made the newer iMacs easier to replace parts in if you have an issue. This makes it easier for Apple to send a new part out to be swapped by the owner as opposed to taking it to the shop or sending in the whole unit. In theory video cards could be switched along with other parts. Just a hypothesis, haven’t heard of anyone doing it yet… “Yet” being the key word.
there seems to be some confusion on what virtualization is. Virtualization is when you have an OS and then an application that will emulate, “virtualize,” a different OS on top of the core OS (think of virtual PC or Classic). That is that the core os must run a second application in order to run a certain app. It is not virtualization if the core OS can run that certain app by itself (e.g.: with out virtual PC or Classic)
Lets say that the Mac OS Leopard is able to run Windows apps, with out windows… the apps then would be false-native, as in, the apps are not native themselves, but function in the EXACT way as if they were native… essentially being native.
Morty = MacDude
The double-spacing between every sentence gives it away, jackass.
morty, universal binary is part of the answer, Adobe still makes a significant amount of money off of OSX users. It is still in Adobe’s best interest to code for that group. Apple liscensed colorsync, that is why the Mac ruled in the print industry. There are ways to make it close on a PC, but in the end it’s easier and more cost effective to use a Mac for publishing.
Morty, sorry about the lower case of your name, no disrespect meant to you, I didn’t do a spellcheck.
Here’s that Adobe blog I was talking about where the developer is talking about developing CS3 in XCode and how it means they are having to re-write tons of legacy code.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it, MacDude.
Morty do you prefer an Apple HiFi or a 5.1 stereo system for $200 more?
Depends upon the 5.1 system of course.
Lots of trolls here huh?
It doesn’t really matter, dankman, there’s no chance of OSX surviving beyond a few more years.
AS someone said, wake up and smell the JPEG’s, dude.
Virtualization is just a stopgap employed by Jobs to forstall the inevitable.
There wil be no more software development for the Mac because its not worth it.
A envirnoment that runs Windows will always be considered superior by the masses, because its familiar to them.
Like cream corn to my colon, its comfortable and easy.
Stop spitting.
^ and ^; Thanks clones.
Any 5.1 system will defeat Apple’s lame offering of a Lo-Fi Boombox.
No 5.1 out, so no SACD capability.
Why pay for that when for very little more you can have more features and far superior sound?
This is too easy, you guys need to try harder.
Apple is dead soon, and I’ll be selling my Macs on eBay since that’s where fools like you shop.
Ah, SACD – the format that’s about to die.
Yet another Sony dead-end.
This is all well and good but aren’t Macs harder to upgrade. I mean pc’s are usualy made up of bits and pieces from all over the place. Can you change the graphics card easily in a mac?
Officially the only Mac that can be self upgraded is the PowerMac. And then only RAM, video cards, PCI cards and hard drives. The rest are just RAM only mostly.
Now people have upgraded their new MacTels machines with more recent versions of the Core Duo processors, also hard drives. But of course these mods are not sanctioned by mother Apple.
Unfortunalty there is no cheap Mac with a upgrade capacity. I have argued for a upgradable iMac for years, especially the video card for 3D games.
I think Apple now allows the option for a advanced video card with purchase of a new iMactel now though.
Mac’s are far more reliable because Apple is in charge of quality control.
What is up with these trolls tonight?
Who the fsck is macdude?
Why is everyone copying my nick?
Weird how you never see “Morty” and “MacDude” in the same thread. Could Clark Kent be Superman…? He’s got those glasses on, I can’t tell.
I love the smell of Troll in the morning.
Smells like . . .
MacDude.
HAHAHA you guys are funny.
Well since you all are so convinced I’m this macdude fellow, better get used to it because I’m hard to kill apparantly.
Here is my ip address so you know me later.
6.5.25.15
Oh and my website.
Be all that you can
cheers
Morty………. what can I say
he’s baaaaaaacccccccckkkkkkkk
MDN… can you make that macdude delete button adjustable? I mean, er…. can we put someone else’s name in it?
So… a US army guy uses the word “cheers”?
hmmmm….
didn’t macdude use “cheers” as a sign off alot?
Is there any way that I can delete or edit posts I’ve already made?
I shouldn’t have posted that.
I don’t want my commanding officers to find out how much time I spend posting here.
Truce you guys.
Why doesn’t MDN have an edit button???
Lets pretend that its OK for users of Army networks to spend all day trolling Mac forums and posting the IP addresses of network routers. I know a few people in the Army and they have very, very strict policies on what they can use their computers for. They can’t spend all day on web forums like us Fortune 500 corporate guys.
BTW, if you reverse dns 6.5.25.15, surprise surprise, it doesn’t exist.
there are A LOT of stupid people posting here…
morty is not one of them.
you people forget that anyone can post under the name “morty” to make him look like a troll….
the people who do that (cloners) are the real trolls…
I take that back, it is a valid IP.
Morty, what if Corporal Punishment finds out you’re wasting taxpayer money trolling Mac forums? He’ll put you in the Cooler for sure.
