“A friend just passed me a photocopy of what is supposedly an article from an upcoming issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly about Apple’s soon to be released gaming device called, what else, iGame,” “AH” reports for Station A. “I have the actual magazine the article appears in clutched in my grubby little hands. It indeed caomes in the April 06 issue. It is NOT described as a rumor, and in fact is supposedly set to be introduced at this May’s Electronic Entertainment Expo in LA.”
“AH” provides a link to a scan of the PDF of the actual article and emphasizes “the article itself is NOT A FAKE. If the information EGM is relaying to it’s readers is incorrect is another matter. But this article will be in the April 06 issue of EGM. So save the “it’s Photoshopped”, “FAKED” nonsense. Don’t believe it will happen? Fine. But the article, and that’s all I am reporting on here, will happen.”

April Fools.
Wait’ll you see what Steve REALLY unveils April 1 to mark 30 years of Apple!
The CEO’s even going to work a SATURDAY for the media event!
Ah! The bliss of unfounded speculation…
O
i have not laughed out loud at a mock up in a while. That right there is some funny stuff. I especially like how the “iGot game headline” is horizontally misaligned. That happens quite a bit in publishing.
What the hell kind of buttons are those for a gaming machine? I imagine the instructions will read as follows: “To throw a pass press ‘track forward’ while behind the line of scrimmage. To hurdle, press the ‘menu’ button.”
Good joke, bad fake.

It’s a metaphor. There’s no Apple game device. iPod is used as a metaphor for all kinds of things because it’s such a pop culture icon for all personal electronic devices.
to Origami: No, it’s not.
Nice take MDN, after you got all the readers observations.
April fools. Faker than ‘origami’. Its “up there” with the Apple iPad (SNL).
More likely that future iPods would add more functionality and/or basic games. We don’t need another gaming platform. and who the heck would design this thing as a square? its not a practical shape.
nonsense … = April fools joke
where is the on/off button? I hope its not near the controls
Nice gameboy crusiform in the graphic. Isn’t that an infringment of some patent?????
Leo
Regardless, Apple probably won’t be able to use the iGame moniker.
I am a founding member (though no longer associated with) an organization called iGames – it is a LAN gaming center owner association.
http://www.igames.org
game developers would have been involved long ago – I doubt this would not have leaked before that (I’m assuming Apple would not announce a device such as this a year ahead of release or whatever would be the minimal time necessary to port games from other platforms)
Fake.
It doesn’t fit into Apple’s look and they haven’t used that version of the Apple logo in years.
That thing can’t be real. It’s got more than six buttons, (not including keyboards) so itcan’t be from Apple.
Hmmm, I’m pretty sure this is a fake, but a combo game machine, iPod music and video, plus a few other palm-type features, could make something like this interesting. As far as the thing looking “cheezy,” well, looking at the butt-ugly HiFi, anything’s possible.
A P R I L F O O L S !
old style headphone jack
Apple would never make an ad that looked so lame. Not to mention the igameboy rip off. Somebody did a godawful job on that, good luck next year.
If this device was going to be announced at a trade show in May, Apple WOULD NEVER allow an April issue of a magazine (which would hit the newstands before April) to publish the information.
Remember the Time debacle of a few years ago with the G4 iMac (and that his stands only hours before the announcement).
Add that to the April, as in April Fools edition, and you know it’s a fake!
EGM every year is notorious for an april fools article. This is most likely it!
Not only is it an April Fools joke but Origami’s something better is an even bigger steaming pile of shit than the iGame.
Talk about a major disappointment, ORIGAMI is the disappointment of the year.
Apple NEVER places ads for a product prior to at least announcing it. No way this is real.
Plus, the buttons on the right of the unit are not evenly spaced (top one is too far left), the control pad is straight off of a Game Boy, and the Apple logo is tilted too far for the screen.
Plus, why is the figure in the background obviously listening to music when this is supposed to be a game device?
This is real!!
there will be no cartridges. You connect to your mac and download all the games from itunes. It will work just like the ipod , but for games.
Downloading games is the future!
