“Thanks to the projected sales boom of Apple Computer Inc. for this year, Taiwan’s leading contract computer manufacturers, including Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Quanta Computer Inc., and Asustek Computer Inc., are expected to enjoy growing orders from the U.S. computer giant,” China Economic News Service (CENS) reports. “Insiders indicated that the total sales volume of Apple’s desktop and notebook personal computers (PCs) is likely to challenge 10 million units for this year, which may help the company return to the world’s ‘top five computer brands’ club… Last year Apple sold about 4.8 million PCs, up 35% from the corresponding volume of a year earlier, and is ambitious to boost the volume to 10 million PCs this year.”
CENS reports, “The statistics compiled by International Data Corp. (IDC) showed that Apple shipped around 2.2 million notebook PCs last year, with 70% of which [were] iBook models. Since Asustek is Apple’s key contractor for iBook PCs, it is expected to deliver three million notebook PCs for Apple this year; and Quanta is estimated to ship a total of two million desktop and notebook PCs to Apple.”

The last four posts are Aidens.
He’s trying to get me mad or banned, except he doesn’t realize MDN see’s IP addesses next to each post.
Aiden, you might be right on MacDude being a troll, but macbones would get my trofee for troll of the day. This guy really doesn’t have any clue of how business works.
macbones, just have a look around you and try to identify how many products around you (in your tiny little cubicle at work, I assume) are really made in a factory owned by the company that is named by the brand-sticker on top of it?!
Guess you would come in for a nice surprice.
Ever heard of logistics and outsourcing being some of the most important cost-saving and risk-reducing tools in today’s business?
Go get yourself a library card and try to skip the comic-books…

Good, then MDN will see that the only posts that are mine are the ones with my name Aiden..
just another shameless Google bomb

Apple better be very very agreesive this year, because once Vista arrives installed on new chepaer PC’s, with better security and eye candy, Mac sales will suffer significantly.
—
Vista runs on Macs.
MDN needs 24 news submission or something, then every hour, at the top of each hour there is a fresh story to pound on.
“If Vista is secure and pleasant to use…”
Whew! I was worried that MacDude might be on to something there, but then he put it into perspective.
The release date of Vista will be the first day of hype about how the NEXT Windows will finally fix all of Windows’ problems.
word: Stay, as in You stay classy, Redmond!
Apple better make 20 million Macs, seeing how they always manage to underdeliver, 10 can’t be enough.
macdude.
You’re annoying. Go away. No one here likes you. If you want to touch yourself while talking about about M$, go somewhere else. Fag.
If Vista uses that gawd awful registry it will not be secure. I love Macs because there is no registry that gets filled up with crap that nobody can understand.
Hear hear
“I look for Apple to make the OS choice a big issue going forward since one of the real strategies of the Intel switch is to make the hardware less relevant. Once people realize that the APPLICATIONS they use daily can be used on another platform, they will begin to see there is a choice and they can choose to dump the crapware that Windows is for the Mac OS.”
**** I agree to some extent, but I don’t see this in the short term as far as Windows users jumping ship by the droves. Most people don’t like drastic change, and will stick with what they are used to. Plus, Apple is going to keep it’s OS proprietary, so it will only run on Macs (unless hacked) – thus needing a hardware purchase to switch. If Apple EVER licenses it’s OS, Apple will die as a “brand”. It will become another Microsoft.
Since it seems as though Apple is PURPOSELY planning on releasing Leopard right around the time Vista ships (They should release it a couple of months ahead to show potential Vista users that Leopard kills Vista), Leopard must have some incredible things in store. And Apple can make these OS changes in short periods of time (1yr) as opposed to M$ (5yrs?). With Vista being so power hungry and probably needing a complete hardware upgrade as well to fully utilize all of it’s features, people may take a hard look at Leopard and go with a Mac (wishful thinking? maybe, maybe not). By the time people start SERIOUSLY thinking of upgrading to Vista (late 2007-1st half of 2008), Apple will already have a successor to Leopard out.
“The adoption rate of Vista by PC users will be even slower than that of XP – mark my words”
Agreed. Spot on! Like I said, by the time people start SERIOUSLY thinking of upgrading to Vista, Apple will already have a successor to Leopard out!
As to the real topic…..As much as I would wish it to be, I just don’t see it. 10 million units??? That’s over 100% growth. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.
One final note: MacDude – you seem drunk tonight or something. Either that, or someone is using your name. I usually find your posts very well thought out (for the most part).
“If Vista is secure and pleasant to use, I see a lot of Mac users switching, just for all the software alone. Not to mention jobs in IT.”
I doubt it. Mac users tend to be a loyal bunch.
As for the jobs in IT. I doubt it even more. I am a developer and I use a Mac because of the Unix heritage. It’s actually easier for me to get my job done with OS X than with Windows.
More and more developers are considering OS X these days. Windows is kind of stale and unexciting. Lots of stuff is happening in the *nix and open source space. Lots of power users and geeks are turning their backs on Windows.
“Apple on the other hand, you have to pay what they want. OS updates used to be free, but now they cost and so does all the iLife updates.”
1) At least Apple updates, and it’s the user’s, not the company’s choice as to whether a newer, better version is available for purchase
2) You throw around prices like $299 for Vista Business, and commend Micro$oft for selling a stripped-down version at a lower price to cater to people who want to spend less, yet seem oblivious to the fact that the FULL version of OS X will cost you not a penny more than US$ 129. That’s probably cheaper than the shittiest version of Vista you’ll be able to buy.
Idiot.
Let ‘s be fair it is not so easy to be an Apple-dealer; there is a very fast replacement scedule and then newer product are not avaiable for month to go.
Remember the iMac G4 misser only two years ago you had to buy an eMac for the time being. Now there still is no eMac left, as a cheap alternative, .. yes for schools perhaps.
Apple should revive a cheaper modell, the Mini is already over time ..
It will be nice when a Mac-Intel can run Windhose applications but time is running out as the world mass starts computing on cheap boxes that run Micro$oft. . .
Apple will be “the Porsche” but not the mass anymore. Micro$oft can ajust the marked with software price dumps because its develloping cost are 1000 times ore more earned..
I hope/think Apple can get ± 10 % of the marked in the “richer” world.
Due to the iPod.
MacDude – the Macfanboys here are worried. They spend more time trying to put you down than discussing the laughable topic that Apple will double its computer sales in 2006.
That´s in the next 10 months!
Wha-ha-ha-ha-ha.
People – Despite everything Steve has done: OSX, iPod, new computers, new processor, apple stores, etc, etc, etc, Apple market share has barely budged since he has been back at the helm.
I think who ever wrote the article is a bit confused.
Read the last paragraph which sums it up:
“Since Asustek is Apple’s key contractor for iBook PCs, it is expected to deliver three million notebook PCs for Apple this year; and Quanta is estimated to ship a total of two million desktop and notebook PCs to Apple.”
So, in reality, what they are projecting is that together they predict to deliver a total of around 5 million desktop and notebook PCs to Apple, NOT 10 million!

VISTA is certainly going to be the best thing that EVER happened to Apple and the Mac platform. Why? Here’s why:
1. Users have to make a big decision to upgrade with BOTH software and hardware – so with an iPod in their pocket they’ll also look at Macs.
2. The security issues with VISTA are already visible and it will still be 100,000 to zero and that will make people go Mac.
3. The stock market is kicking MS because they see it has become an even more cumbersome leviathan that’s slow, innefective and on the defensive. That will make people go Mac.
4. By the time VISTA is rushed out -before its ready- onto the shelves, Apple will have brought out several more innovations and will have demonstrated that they OWN the future of consumer media consumption, at home and on the move.
5. The rollout of Apple stores will continue apace and as we all know – they are running flat out already every minute they’re open. And they aren’t full of Window shoppers, they’re full of buyers.
I’m sure there are other reasons too but that’s enough. So, my view is that Macdude is a bit of an idiot, certainly a provocative troll, and probably a child.
Macdude
Not sure that you’re bothering to read this far down, but I’m going to reply anyway. You admit that you’re not a PC owner/user. Go and use one as your primary computer for a bit. Let that lovely looking Windows interface get in your way time and time again, with it’s stupid GUI inconsitencies, it’s great way of freezing every program because <b>one<i> can’t complete a network call, and it’s click-click-click-click-click-click-click-type-click-click-finish simple task Wizards.
Then we’ll see you about three months later when you come back to the Mac. Just make sure any Windows software you buy can be cross-graded.
Damn the lack of an edit button on this forum!!! Come on MDN, TMO and MacNN can do it.
That should read one
All things being equal, I would prefer to be part of the “Mile-High Club.”
You guys are too funny.
I use both systems daily. Windows XP Pro SP2 is fairly stable right now, as long as you reboot daily.
When your anti-virus software is up to date, your Windows patches are up to date and your hardware firewall is working, XP is also fairly secure.
There is no reason not to believe that Vista, which will have no trouble looking better than XP, will be just as stable and secure as XP is now with all of the necessary precautions taken.
Will you be able to buy a Vista computer cheaper than an iMac or a Macbook? Not by much. Vista will need the same processor the Mac does. No Windows savings there. No Vista boxes with 2 year old processors.
No Mac like iApps either. Vista will not be a great improvement over XP and Vista hardware will be more expensive than XP hardware. You will also have to upgrade all software to fully use Vista’s eye candy.
Mac switchers will keep coming over to the better system and iPod will continue to show the way to the iApps and the Mac.
DAve h – own a mac and pc here. I just really have no problems with either os. Each is different. You talk about the gui in windows – uh, what´s that? I mean, I never use it per se, always have a program on, never spend much time fiddling on the desktop.
Never had a program freeze on me yet with Windows XP.
dave h says: “…it’s click-click-click-click-click-click-click-type-click-click-finish simple task Wizards”
What are those simple task wizards you do on XP? Owned my current XP pc for over 2 years and never done one.
I look forward to the continued competition between Windows and Apple – I am the winner in that race since I use them both.
Then veleeeta, I would describe you as a “light user”. I have heavier demands and Windows is too frustrating to use.
Which is why I prefer a Mac every time.
Even though MacDude is one of those annoying whiney pessimists that’s always saying they will go PC, he’s got a point. The PC industry is one of those big, meta-stable, systems that favors size. M$ has the dominant market share position simply because they have the dominant market share position. The winning move was made way back when M$ stole the Mac OS from Apple. With Apples help however the nature of the PC industry has changed enough that there are no technical reasons why one OS would dominate the industry. User perceptions are the only thing standing in the way of Apple gaining double digit market share. The shift to Intel processors has a everything to do with manipulating Joe sixpack’s perception that Apple has good hardware. Add to that that the average Windows user has become tired of M$ crap; the seeds of change are there.
