  1. Sorry biggie, I’ve bought hard drives, enclosures and RAM for OWC and have had only the best service. The Mercury Al Pro triple interface HD I bought from them at MacWorld is absolutely wonderful.

  2. I am with biggieG on this one. The OWC Neptune FireWire I have sucks. It died within 30 days and the hassle of trying to replace it was not worth it. I will never by another OWC drive in my life. Fortunately, enough of my data was recoverable.

  3. Best brand in Firewire drives is by far LaCie.
    I own 4 of them.
2 were bought on eBay, so they are about 3 years old and work like a charm (daily use).

I once had a technical problem with the Design by Porsche model. I sent it to LaCie. They sent it back with a note:
“We checked the drive and did not find anything wrong with it. However we took the liberty of putting a new one in it just in case.”

I will not buy an other brand.

  4. I’m pleased with OWC. Their phone reps were most polite, professional and I received the products when and as promised.

One of the items I use is enclosures, when a HDD upgrade needed it’s a simple process to swap it out. LaCie is a fine brand, however, I choose enclosures.

  5. whatever,

I know OWC does not make the drive – they rebrand it. Nonetheless, it is still a non-functioning mish-mash of electronic and mechanical components. However, I do enjoying purchasing other name-brand products from their site.
