“Apple Computer is the next Starbucks, said Pip Coburn. Like the specialty coffee purveyor, Apple is discovering that the sky’s the limit to the number of retail outlets it can successfully open, Coburn said Tuesday on CNBC’s ‘Closing Bell.’ ‘Like Starbucks, they take pride in every little element of that store,'” CNBC reports. “Apple has 130 retail stores, while Best Buy has 700 outlets, Coburn said. ‘It’s so under-penetrated, and yet Apple is that company that’s allowing those analogists who are very afraid of technology and the digital world to integrate over. They’re the ferrymen who can get you from one life into the next.’”
“’They can make their numbers for the next couple of years just by growing their stores, and investors aren’t focused on that right now,’ said Coburn, a technology consultant and researcher who left a job as head of tech research at UBS to run his own firm, Coburn Ventures,” CNBC reports.

Doh Doh head – Apple does build better than other companies. Not all parts are the same, and Apple chooses its parts wisely.
The people who work in Starbucks have to lift gallon jugs of milk all day. I would think that it would be easy to have a large milk container with a spigot. Apple store people don’t have that repetitive lifting all day.
The products are good, but I don’t drink coffee.

Used to be going to an IT-mall in Bangkok. Apple shops (3 of them, resellers) in a few obsure corners to get my stuff, but only this X-mas, I saw the entire line of Apple displayed in Emporium, which is the No. 1 mall in Bangkok, right along Sukhumvit.
Now talking about Apple’s name out on the street?! It is happening, and it’s happening everywhere….

Coffee in the stores would be a tasty addition, as would a juice bar (I’ve never tasted a Macintosh apple — we don’t seem them in the UK).

@Rainy Day, yeah right. GIve me a break. Apple products fail just as much as any other. Most people don’t buy Apple memory because it’s too expensive, they buy Crucial. The memory Apple uses is Samsung. Some people buy external drives from LaCie. Apple uses Fujitsu hardrives. Toshiba burners.The same stuff you can buy off of newegg. The monitors they use is the same ones used by DELL.
Okay, the next time you buy a Mac, don’t buy AppleCare.

Doh Doh head – I never buy AppleCare. Waste of money. In 27 years of owning Apple computers, i’ve never had a single Apple computer fail me nor cost me anything to repair.
The only Apple product i had problems with was a 17″ CRT. It was out-of-warranty by the time it failed, or so i thought, but turned out Apple had extended the warranty for the problem by 5 years, so it was a no-cost repair.
Also had a recalled WallStreet power supply, which Apple replaced for free after the warranty expired (although the original never failed).
I usually keep my computers at least 5-6 years, and use them almost daily, so they get plenty of use. In fact, i still have Quadra 605 running as a server box (on 24/7 for many years now).
I know PC people whose computers fail them within a couple of years of purchase.
Apple generally uses superior quality components, and therein lies one critical difference between them and many other computer makers.
