“Apple Computer is the next Starbucks, said Pip Coburn. Like the specialty coffee purveyor, Apple is discovering that the sky’s the limit to the number of retail outlets it can successfully open, Coburn said Tuesday on CNBC’s ‘Closing Bell.’ ‘Like Starbucks, they take pride in every little element of that store,'” CNBC reports. “Apple has 130 retail stores, while Best Buy has 700 outlets, Coburn said. ‘It’s so under-penetrated, and yet Apple is that company that’s allowing those analogists who are very afraid of technology and the digital world to integrate over. They’re the ferrymen who can get you from one life into the next.’”
“’They can make their numbers for the next couple of years just by growing their stores, and investors aren’t focused on that right now,’ said Coburn, a technology consultant and researcher who left a job as head of tech research at UBS to run his own firm, Coburn Ventures,” CNBC reports.

I was in the Marlton (NJ) store last night, a half-hour before closing time, and it was absolutely packed. It wasn’t just iPod fever, either. No small number of people were testing out the Macs as well.
There’s no doubt in my mind that 2006 will be at least as successful as this year.
I like Starbucks Frappucinos. Very sugary & unhealthy, but they taste good.
I have my credit card ready to buy a new 20″ iMac, but I’m putting off until the Steve’s keynote address next month in San Francisco. (Just in case there’s a speed bump, not for the rumored appearance of the Intel chip. Don’t believe that’s going to happen.)
I’m wondering how many OTHERS are doing the same thing right now. I’ll bet the new year starts off with a BIG buying bang!

what’s an “analogist” ?
has anyone tried to demo and use an ipod in CompUSA or Bestbuy. It’s awful if not impossible. I ve been to a couple bestbuy store and the ipod have nothing loaded in them so, for instance you can’t look at photo’s or trya movie on them before you buy. This happened at Wilton, NY and Danvers, ma stores. Just an awful display. The ipods in Compusa’s are just as bad. I couldn’t even try out the ipod since it was frozen.
Apple does it right with their retail stores. It’s a cool experience to try out pods and laptops and everything functions. The kids can mess around with e-macs while I lust for a 5g ipod or watch Iceage on it.
That explains it. Starbucks hasn’t gone over so well in Montreal. We’ll prolly never get an Apple Store, I guess. :sigh:
It’s funny there isn’t any consideration given to their channel of private Apple resellers increasing and having an impact on the top line and market share.
Why weren’t the Apple dealers more of impact to Apple’s business? How come prior to Apple’s own direct chain of stores, the channel wasn’t a “story”?
I know a bunch of people will say how great their local Apple dealer is or was.
When we see an Apple store directly across the street from an Apple store, then we will know it is the end of the universe.

What Apple is, is the next Apple.
Apple is again what Apple once was in many ways and what it might have been years before if it’s founder and leader had not been replaced by corporate buffoons.
Apple is not like any other American corporation. Apple is unique. There is no reason to compare it with any other huge American company. This is why it has done so well in the face of terrible odds and why the business world is at a loss as to how to explain it’s recent success.
Jobs & “Company” is run more like a family business than a corporation. Analysts are simply not aware of what is happening in current culture or inside the company.
