  1. Wha? –

There are more stats to a stock than the price per share – Does anyone at MDN look at anything ELSE? Rooting for a stock split is like rooting for a $0.75 coin – it is inconsequential – Root for “sales” (top line) and “earnings” (bottom line) growth…that is what drives a stocks price!

    To your question:
If a low per share price is good for investors, please explain Berkshire Hathaway, whose closing price today was $87,900.00?

The reason is that BH wants to encourage institutional ownership and large investments amounts. BH is a value investment group. They take very traditional basic stances – “buy low, sell high” and “buy and hold” to heart. They don’t want people short-term or day trading BH and face it, when your stock is $90k a share, the pool of potential investors is quite low.

BH is an annomily. The Board of Directors is fine with not splitting because they aren’t really looking for “new blood”, they are trying to continually return outstanding value to their owners, which they do over and over again.

  2. I am just glad I bought and held back when it was $27.00 ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

Yeah, let it keep spliting and rising and then I can do like the execs are doing and trade a bit of it in on a sailboat or two.

what most people fail to understand is that Apple has a greater share than 4% – installed base is actually over 16% – still not as big as M$ but when the late adopters take on the new machines because they are so slick and can run both OP Sys, then watch out! (or so I think) ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

MDN MW: central -as in: the central buying strategy of any prudent investor is how long can you hold your shares if there is a downturn and you want to take the risk of a turnaround?

  3. I bought at 12-3/4 and have seen two splits. I was on an Apple based IRC channel and everyone was saying what a great bargain it was and how they were going to buy some. I went out and did, not so much as an investment even though its been a great one but because I wanted some ‘ownership’ of Apple. A year latter the price was substantially better and everyone on the IRC channel were wishing how they bought at 12-3/4. Excuse me, didn’t you say you were going to? With all the stock talk around here I wonder how many go out and actually make the plunge.

  4. Well im living proof that its just not an ipod fizz, its also an imac fizz because i just got my new imac and im a switcher, the imac is fantastic so now ill just replace my windows machine with linux and then no more microsoft viruses, crashes, constant restarts, spyware, adware and i could go on forever here but you know the rest.

  5. Being without MDN for so long is like being “Lost” on an ISLAND.

Looks like AAPL will open strong along with the market as preliminary sales figures for Black Friday and the holiday weekend show sales up a whopping 22% over last year. No doubt some of those were iPods and iMacs – I picked up the 60GB iPod in black myself!
