UK woman narrowly survives Xbox fire; users report Xbox 360 ‘crashing like mad’

“So, the Xbox 360’s been available for, what, 15 minutes, and already the crash reports are streaming in. According to postings on Xbox-Scene and other fan sites, some early adopters are discovering that waiting on line in the cold for two years to snag a box was the least of their problems: the game consoles are allegedly crashing during a variety of games and reporting a range of error messages,” Marc Perton reports for Engadget.

“A quick look on our forums (more, more and more) seems to indicate he’s not the only one. Several of our members seems to get crashing 360s. It doesn’t seem to be related to a specific game, as we get reports of the Xbox 360 crashing with several games. And it’s not all the same Error-number either (E79, E74, E64, real crashes, …). I quickly checked over at TeamXbox and they also have a large thread and poll about defective Xbox 360s,” XanTium reports for Xbox-Scene.com.

In somewhat related news, The Register reports that a UK woman was “was pulled unconscious from her house by two strangers after succumbing to smoke generated by a faulty Xbox… Anglesey fire and rescue spokesman Dave Evans confirmed the fire was caused by a ‘fault in an Xbox game machine’ left on standby. Back in February, Microsoft recalled 14.1m Xbox power cables shipped into Europe before 13 January, 2004 and in other territories before 23 October, 2003, as we previously reported. MS admitted to ’30 or so reports from users suffering minor burns, singed upholstery or scorched carpets as a result of power lead malfunctions.'”

  1. I havent been here for awhile, Looks like you’ve takin the BS to a whole new level, so you can get those extra hits from your, uh like, 25 readers..But way to go…My 360 works just fine:) When It crashes, ill eat my words..but so far so good.

  2. Oh yeah, one more thing..Its funny how No One else on the web is reporting this issue…Typical MDN, blind journalism (?LOL?) at its best. You fags would do anything, anything at all to kill the credibility of a worthy product…Instead, lets go buy apples console. Wait a minute. THEY DONT HAVE ONE!!!!…But MS must have copied Apples idea of a console…You know, underpowered, overpriced, overhyped, and overdesigned.

Change your domain to a more suitable name…Like….Microsoft Daily News….

  3. WOW Mdn, if you don’t like the site don’t read it, otherwise have a nice day fighting viruses and so forth while I get real work done on my mac. and yes the XBOX 360 has awesome specs. However the manufacturer who put it out is crap. As people have already mentioned the fiasco with the original XBOX. This is what M$ gets for pushing a product out just to make christmas. I plan on waiting in line for the PS3 which by the way kicks the living piss out of everyones overhyped XBOX 360. Sorry you poor crash victims, I hope you can get a return and save your money for the underpriced PS3.

  4. FactChecker, Maybe MDN should make sure that the news that they are copying from other sites is real. That would releave some of the mis-conseptions about their crappy reporting…Do you believe everything you read on the web? Im going to assume you do, just becasue you are an MicrosoftDailynews.com reader..Dont worry, I wont be back. This “News” site isnt even a spec, in the underpants of W3.

  5. Modified version of Windows NT for PPC

Yes, a version of Windows NT used to be made for PPC.

“Windows NT 3.1 ran on Intel IA-32 x86, DEC Alpha, and MIPS R4000 processors. Windows NT 3.51 added support for PowerPC processors. Intergraph Corporation ported Windows NT to its Clipper architecture and later SPARC, but neither version was sold to the public. Windows NT 4.0 was the last major release to support Alpha, MIPS, or PowerPC, though development of Windows 2000 for Alpha continued until 1999, when Compaq stopped support for Windows NT on that architecture. Only 2 of the Windows NT 4.0 variants (IA-32 and Alpha) have a full set of service packs available. All of the other ports done by 3rd parties (Motorola, Intergraph, etc.) have few, if any, publically available updates.”

  6. Hey, WOW MDN, did you notice that MDN quoted an article from another website, so yes, it’s somewhere else on the web, and no, it’s not plagiarism. It’s also from an xbox fansite, no less.

If you’re gonna be a troll, you need to learn to write like one. Next time, try something like, “Mac sux, windoz rulz!!! U guyz can all f$&* off and eat my s!@&!” Now, doesn’t that have a nice ring to it?

    MW: duhhhhh…

  7. How about Microsoft’s site? Would you believe theirs?

They have multiple support articles on 360 crashing/freezing issues. one was written as early as Oct 25th, so they definitely already knew of the problem.

Do u just cut and paste that “get out of this site” mantra each time u see a post u disagree with?

It is obvious that that WOW guy just wanted to draw your attention to the fact celebrating someone’s failure is a not a good character trait.

I would even add to that that that type of behavior is typical to someone who is not confident in his/er own power. I assume that the Apple’s market share worries u subconsciously. I would agree that until it remains as tiny as it is there is good a fair reason for any Mac fan to be worried but that does not justify celebrations of other’s failures (at least in the area where Apple is not competing with Microsoft); I hate to say that but u seem to have lost the sense of reality here – if MS is that bad why Apple still can not beat it?

  9. WOW MDN <—- here we have another prime example of the closed minded, inferior obsessed, wishing for a bigger ****, LEMMING that is the true KoolAid drinker that MicroSuck makes its living from.

You could do nothing more original than try to bash upon something original by claiming obscurity?

Which makes me wonder, how did you come to this site in the first place? Did your Xcox crash already and you were trying to find a solution so that you would not have to send it back. Thusly loosing a bet you placed with your Playstation friends in the fact that all MicroSuck products will crash at least once in the first week of operation?
