“Several tipsters are reporting that, like the iPod mini, iMacs are suddenly reflecting wait times of 7-10 business days for direct orders from the Apple online store. iMacs had previously shown ‘same business day’ ship estimates… sources close to the company claim that the flow of G5 microprocessors from IBM has improved significantly over the past few months. Apple, at its discresion, could improve on the iMac’s performance anytime, sources said. The iMac continues to be a hot seller in February, and such a move would aim to preserve the iMacs momentum, sources added. A 2GHz iMac has been stable for some time. Meanwhile, reports from inside the company hint that a significant announcement will be made on or around Wednesday of next week,” AppleInsider reports.

I wish Apple would make the iMac case similar to the Mac Mini and Cinema displays. The anodized aluminum with white plastic accents is a nice touch. All Apple accessories could then have the same theme.
My company just bought a bunch of Dells. They are to big to fit in the cases we normally transport our computers is for Oilfield Rental. The backs look like chicken wire. The front USB access door just about falls off unless you open it directly from the middle. Once open you see more chicken wire and it is very difficult to see
where the USB port is. You have to put your head at about the same level as the base to see it. If you had it on the floor you’d be kissing the carpet.

I hope this rumor is true. It makes my waiting worth while.
I’ve had a 20″ iMac G5 on order from Apple for thre weeks. On the original ship date of February 14 I received an email from Apple telling me there would be an additional delay in shipping my computer. My new ship date was given as February 18.
Well, the February 18 date has come and gone. I just received an email from Apple with a new ship date of February 25. Sigh. 🙁
I hope this is not just a continuation of Apple’s supply problems. I was thinking maybe because I customized my iMac with BT and Airport the delay was caused by all the custom builders having to work on the backlog of custom Mac mini orders.

The difference between a 20th Century 32-bit Celeron and a 21st Century 64-bit G5 is like night and day…
If you did a little homework you would know that on the G5, you arent forced to keep dozens of anti-malware programs running in the background just to maintain a false sense of security… You dont have to pay NAV ..Symantec ..or whoever to keep your anti-virus software updated on a daily basis…
The current adverts concering “Computer Viruses” are misnomers… These are actually “WinDoze Viruses”… because… WinDoze machines are the ONLY machines affected !!
The G5 kicks Intel’s butt as far as speed goes, and 18,000 titles available for the Mac proves there is no shortage of apps to run …

Ha. Last night I tried a brand new Sony Viao that a friend of mine bought. Beautiful machine – light, slim, great display, etc etc. But it took forever to start up Windows XP, it was generally sluggish in its system response, and after I closed it to put it to sleep, like I do with my PowerBook, my friend reopened it to find it had crashed and needed a restart. To top it off, it cost GBP500 more than my 12″ PowerBook.
Macs just work.
This shit is bloody hilarious, but, I have compuled some 64bit unix binaries and have a 64 bit OS running on a second hard drive, granted, it runs very little, but at least I CAN run 64 bit apps.
