Apple iPod, iMac G5 are ‘hot sellers’

“From stocking stuffers to budget busters and from toys to technology, holiday shoppers this year will be confronted with a wide array of ‘hot’ gifts from which to choose. But this year, Santa’s load may be a little lighter, with many of the most-wanted gifts smaller and more portable than those of the past,” Michelle Machado reports for The Record.

“‘Everything is going portable and Wi-Fi,’ said Casey Clark, store manager at Best Buy in Stockton, California. ‘People are interested in MP3s, digital cameras and notebook computers.’ For Computer Link in Stockton, the new Apple iMac G5 — an almost unbelievably slim, 2-inch-thick, high-performance desktop computer — is one hot seller, said Derek Schuffenhauer, a sales assistant and repair technician,” Machado reports. “But Apple iPods are even hotter, he said.”

“The latest addition to the line, iPod photo, is no bigger than a pack of playing cards and weighs in at just over 6 ounces. The new unit features a color display with built-in backlighting and storage for up to 15,000 songs and 25,000 photos,” Machado reports.

  1. Woo Hoo! Let the Christmas Feeding Frenzy begin!

I have a feeling that the number of people who will be trying to get their hands on an iPod (and iPod related stuff) during the next few weeks will make the crowds at the Apple stores look like a Toys-R-Us during the height of Cabbage Patch Madness in the Fall of 1983. Things could get ugly.

At least in the Malls there will be Mall Security (such as it is) to help with the crowds, and clean-up crews to sweep up body parts. Maybe Apple should have paramedics and ambulances on standby at all the stores. You know, just in case.

yep, I caught that on the commercial — I am blown away at how much exposure Apple products recieve, by far Apple has products that are far easier to recognize than any PC hardware! This only reinforces how much I hate the PC platform and how thankful I am for the Mac platform.

  4. What’s an iPod??

Truly, the “news” that the iPod is a big seller surely only rivals other late-breaking information such as the fact that water has been observed as being a little wet, night tends to follow day, and that the Krispy Kreme around the corner from Real Networks seems to run low on bearclaws from time to time.

  5. In the UK we’ve got a good drama running called Spooks. Its MI5 stuuf and the offices are littered with iSights on Macs of various shapes and sizes. Bet they all went home with the director, Producer and cast..!

  6. Spooks also runs in the USA, but under another name.

I think it’s simply called MI5 or something, and it may only be available on cable.

God knows what the USA would make of the current series if it’s shown over there to say there’s more than a hint of the BBC getting its own back over the Hutton report would be a minor understatement.

  7. Just got back from Fry’s in Austin, TX
    (http://www.frys.com/)

They have a great apple section, but today I saw that Creative had set up a large “tent” right in the middle of the Apple section. They had also placed the “zen” player all over the apple counter.

Looks like desperate times for Creative.

  8. The G5 iMac and iPods will be sold out, no doubt; there are only so many components that can be made if everyone who wants one orders it before 2005. As recent Apple stock told us, the iPod Halo has materialised and iPods are selling out with every new generation, so it is growing. Like Pixar releases they get better and better every time.
