  1. Not to belittle this sale, but most of these items including the iMacs and iPods are cheaper than this virtually everyday at Amazon. Plus they don’t charge sales tax (unless you live in WA, ND or KS) either like Apple does.

  2. HAHAHAHA! What a W-E-A-K “sale” this turned out to be!!!!!

    Sale, my @$$!

I knew it – the discounts aren’t even enough to counteract the sales tax. These aren’t any “perfect prices.” Far from it.

I mean, PLEASE. If every day of the year, Apple resellers offer better deals than these – this “sale” isn’t very “special”, is it?

OK…actually, I just noticed a couple of halfway decent things on the list. The price on the Airport Express and .Mac are actually pretty good deals – as in, after you add the sales tax on, they are still cheaper than prices I’ve been able to find elsewhere.

    Yippee.

If they would have had, for example, 10% off on everything, that would have been enough to get my credit card flying out of my wallet.

    To go back to my 12″ iBook w/Bluetooth example again, $999 iBook + $50 Bluetooth = $1049.

    10% off = $944.10

    add my 9% sales tax = $1,029.07

If they’d have done that, I’d have an iBook on the way today.

  3. Ok so I already HAVE a .mac membership… can I buy one now at $68, and hold it ’til mine expires, then turn it in?

i’m wondering if its only good for NEW memberships….

  4. These prices are similar to discounts that Apple offered a year ago on line and in stores. You can do better buying through MacMall (“free” extra memory – a $39 charge for installation, and other goodies). You are not required to purchase products directly from Apple so stop whining.

  5. At the Japan Ginza store, there were only a few items on sale and all 3rd party. I did buy an iM3 iMotion speaker/dock for my father in law tho at 10% off. Not really that exciting.

The guy at the store told me that tomorrow is their 1 year anniversary sale. Just my luck I won’t be able to go check it out.

  6. While it’s true that it’s not Apple’s fault that my state has high sales tax, that still doesn’t excuse the fact that these “sale” prices are pretty weak for the most part.

    17″ iMac = 7.775% off? WEAK!
60 GB iPod photo = 3.5% off???? LAME.

These are pathetic discounts. Companies I’ve worked for would give a new customer, or a disgruntled customer, or a longtime customer who wanted to haggle a bit on the price, 5%-10% off without even *blinking* if that would let us close the sale on the spot.

The whole point of a sale like a “Day-After-Thanksgiving Sale” is to offer the sort of discounts that are so tempting that people are going to actually go to a shopping mall and scratch and fight through the massive crowds to get them!

I don’t think these sale prices are anywhere near up to the task. I mean, come on! You’d think for a sale that lasts ONE FREAKING DAY, Apple could do a LOT better.

On the other hand, the following items Apple has on sale today actually ARE great deals. I think you can see the difference in the discounts. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

    Airport Express = 24% off
    .Mac = 32% off

  7. Bargain-Hunter ALERT!!!

If Apple was really smart here…they
could have just slashed prices across the
board for the entire holiday season. If they had done that, they would sell a bundle of iPods, iMacs, iBooks and related accessories.

Conversely…I think Apple will sell plenty of product this season anyway
and they are really in a nice position
to build thier brand loyalty without
giving away thier much deserved profits.

The one day sale is a nice idea, but
    Apple products really aren’t bargain-
    hunter items…that is unless you
factor in all the benefits you get by
    paying the full price.

Anyways, it’s always nice to see a
company bring the price of thier
product within the reach of those who
are borderline buyers due to a price
    issue. Let the season ring!

  8. And to all you sales tax bean counters…well, you always have to pay that whether there is sale or not.
A sale is a sale – better than nothing.
With an apple sale price you also pay less total sales tax.

  9. Damn – Damn – Damn

Just 2 weeks ago, I almost quit my .Mac membership, but at the last minute I decided to renew it for $99. But now, it’s $68 for today’s sale. Damn!!

I really wish they gave their loyal, existing, members a discount to renew their account. Today, a new member will pay $31 less than someone that has been with them for 2 years. Sigh!!

  10. …but the saddest event that will happen today are the hundreds of people fighting crowds at WalMart to buy a $495 eMachine. Little do they know that they will continue on paying and paying and paying well after they leave the registers.

  11. Aryugaetu..

“…..I have a few friends ready to upgrade their old iMacs. Should they wait until after the January mac Expo?…”

Essentially, thats usually a ‘six of one — half dozen of the other’ — type of deal…

I have a friend that bought the first 15-inch DeskLamp.. almost right after His Steveness announced it in his keynote…. then, a couple months later, the 17 incher came out at essentially the same price….

Needless to say, he was a little miffed… but in the long run, he has been very happy with it…

So, I’d say to let your friends wallet condition be his guide… In other words…. if he can’t wait till January, by all means… buy now !!….

    but…

You just know… that come MWSF… theres definetely gonna be something special announced… “uhhh … just one more thing !”

  12. I’d buy an AirPort Express if it could replace the Linksys WET11 that’s currently hooked to my PlayStation 2 but I’m skeptical that it would work and haven’t found any definitive answer on the net.

  13. The airport express doesn’t have the OUT ethernet LAN port, only the IN WAN port. But if your Playstation has wifi, it should still work.

I managed to get xBox Live working by connecting the ethernet to my PowerBook G4 12″ and turning on internet sharing – i.e., my PowerBook was online via airport, then shared the connection to the xBox via ethernet.

  14. The WET11 is what adds wifi to the PS2 but it’s 802.11b and doesn’t support WPA. Before gettingthe WET11 I’d briefly used an Ethernet connection from my iBook G3, as you’ve done with your Xbox and PowerBook, but that’s still limited to 802.11g and I’d like to increase bandwidth for video streaming to BroadQ QCast Tuner on the PS2. AirPort Express would be convenient for audio streaming since QCast doesn’t support AAC format but that alone isn’t enough to justify a purchase right now. I’ll keep investigating if it’s possible to use AE with WDS AirPort bridging for the PS2 connectivity…

  15. Would’ve bought a 15″ or 17″ PB or a Dual 1.8 PM… maybe even a 20″ iMac.

BUT… the sale sucked so bad!

Judging from the posts above, I’m not alone in my thinking.

    Gosh. 🙁
