“In a speech in January at the Consumer Electronics Show, HP chief executive officer Carly Fiorina outlined HP’s plan for… an HP-branded iPod… the company is expected to introduce an HP-branded version of Apple’s iPod in September. The device will be based on Apple’s fourth-generation iPod, which debuted in July,” Declan McCullagh reports for CNET.

that is huge news… finally a release date
Did he say 4G iPods for HP?
Based on this news its obvious that the 4G style iPod is here to stay for some time, probably at least a whole year.
Can we say OLD NEWS!
If cnet had read Apple ‘s press release for the 4G iPod, they would have come across:
“HP has chosen iPod and iTunes as the best products to integrate in to our digital entertainment strategy, said Carly Fiorina, chairman and chief executive officer at HP. We decided to wait for this amazing new fourth generation iPod, as it will offer our customers an even better experience. HPs version of the new iPod will be available in September.

CNET doesn’t know a damn thing about journalism anyway, so it’s no surprise that they’re reporting this 5 weeks late.
In CNET’s defense (OMG, I cannot believe I just said that), but maybe they wanted to drop the news a little closer to September than other news venues.
It’s too late for HP. Microsoft is knocking on the door and will take over the online download music store scene.
Say goodbye to your iPod. Say goodbye to iTunes Music Store. Microsoft, the slumbering giant, is about to awaken.

The iPod was meant to be a PDA. Want local movie showtimes on your iPod?
Check out http://homepage.mac.com/mrcurley/mindsafe
It takes showtimes for the next ten days for your zip code and puts them in your notes folder on your iPod.

At the last quarterly meeting Apple execs confirmed that the HPod would be out in September. Next subject.
duh.. a 4gen ipod.. it was supposed to be out ages ago.. but they pushed it back.. yawn
When first announced Apple/HP said during the summer. For most of us, it’s still summer…. ages ago doesn’t apply in this instance.
When HP delivers thier version of Apple’s iPod…we’ll all breathe a ::sigh:: of relief.
This is a BIG first, from my recollection…an IBM
compatible/PC computer manufacturer reselling an Apple product. I think everyone in the computing community will get chills from this one…when it happens.
