“As I wrote previously, only Apple could ship limited quantities of its iPod Mini in an attempt both show that it can meet a shipping schedule and then claim that the demand for the product is so high that it can’t make enough product to satisfy demand. I suppose that’s one version of what’s happening. But the truth, of course, is that Apple didn’t meet its February for shipping the iPod Mini in quantity in the US, and now it won’t meet its self-imposed deadline of shipping the iPod Mini worldwide in April either. That’s because, today, Apple announced that the product won’t ship until July,” Paul Thurrott writes for Internet Nexus.
“You may recall that Apple quickly announced that it had received 100,000 pre-orders for the iPod Mini but subsequently never mentioned how many they made so far, how many they’ve shipped to customers, or how many further iPod Mini orders they’d received. I suspect 100,000 is pretty close to the whole run, and on that note, I stand by my assertion that the iPod Mini isn’t a sales phenomenon at all,” Thurrott writes.

MacDailyNews Take: CNET reports that Greg Joswiak, vice president of hardware product marketing at Apple stated today, “We expected it to be a hit, but (demand) is turning out to be stronger than expected,” Joswiak said. “U.S. demand is going to consume all the supply we had planned through June.” If Thurrott thinks Apple had planned to sell only 100,000 iPod minis through June, he’s even more delusional than we had previously thought. We think Paul’s in for quite a shock when iPod mini (and iPod) sales numbers are released.

Every company has it’s detractors. Unless people become basically good (and that’s not going to happen).
I do get tired of all the anti-mac gossip, even though I just did some myself on another post here. But at least it was to fellow mac users.
Here is a site that might be of some relief to those who don’t already know about it: http://www.microsuck.com/

If you think the apple bashing is bad…..
Apple should sue Thrroup for years of slander.
Paul is needing more hits to his site. If he was decent journalist people would view his site but since he’s a know nothing journalist then he has to do whatever he can to get people to view his site. I hope his site is the next victim of a windows virus.
Is it that time of the month again?!
M$ has a whore and her name Thurrott. She prostitute for free and she loves it.
So, whatever she says is not important because she is high 24/7
Well, I may not have time to hang around here much anymore, but I couldn’t give this one a miss. This is Thurrott at his best! I mean, honestly, how many of you guys good make yourselves look so believably stupid? I couldn’t no matter how hard I tried! This guy is a master of the art of stupidity.
This plot is also full of suspense! What’s he going to say when numbers are out and he’s shown to be completely wrong? Will he try to stay the course? Will he wriggle? Will he pretend it never happened? Will the men in white coats finally take him away? Stay tuned for more mind-bending PT weirdness!
Give Bill PT for his bunghole
But what if…
The total amount Apple planned to sell was only 50,000 or 100,000 or inbetween because they could only get that many harddrives….then they have to wait until parts catch up.
Notice that Apple is not revealing any sales numbers to the press….what are the total actual sales so far of the minipod?
You realize, of course, that the more signatures that petition gets, the more Paul The Rotten will become convinced that his cause is just, indeed, that it is essential to the survival of life on Earth. I’ve never understood the mindset that believes “once the last Macintosh is destroyed, and the last Mac user converted {or whatever… I won’t go there…}, the world will become perfect; all war and famine and disease and sorrow will vanish forever.” But there’s a lot of such “thinking” out there, and pretty much has been since Apple Computer started. Some people must have a deep need to validate themselves though hatred of some “other” and hatred of Apple Computer, their products, and their customers is one that you can indulge in freely with no fear of offending anyone who might harm you in response.
Of course, such thinking is not new. In fact it has existed through all of history and has had far more terrible consequences than Paul The Rotten’s spew ever will. What bothers me the most is the steadily growing extent to which this psychic sewage is not only being offered as objective journalism, but being ACCEPTED as such by people who ought to know better. Blatant conflicts of interest, hostile agendas worn on shirt sleeves, rumor and innuendo trumpeted as fact, deflection of criticism with personal abuse; all of these things that used to get bad writers fired now get them promoted.
Why not spank his ass by announcing numbers?
I will _never_ understand Apple.
Apple releases financial information, and holds conference calls with financial analysts, once each fiscal quarter. Their current quarter runs out next week (I think). Presumably they’ll release numbers during their next conference call, which should take place in a few weeks if I’m right about when their fiscal quarter ends.
As for releasing the information early in response to Paul The Rotten’s latest discharge, that would only stoke his ego. He’d take that as proof Apple fears him, and crow about that for the rest of his life, no matter how foolish the numbers actually made him look. After all, if he had any respect for real numbers he wouldn’t be able to write that stuff.
Anyone every see Eric the Viking with Tim Robbins? Was that Paul Turdot the one saying “ooooo no the island is not sinking” as the island was sinking?
Some people like certain products more than others. Some people like to share with others what they know…and to help promote a product they feel will impress someone. Others criticize products for some kind of “review” they feel makes them a journalist. None of that is going on here. This clown and a few like him have taken hatred of a company to the bank. Make no mistake about it…this turd gets PAID to plop this crap into the web. If he ever wrote a flattering piece on Apple. One phone call would end his career. that is a solid fact.
“Why not spank his ass by announcing numbers?”
Why? Because to Apple, and to the rest of us, Thurott is an insignifacant little Microsoft toadie.
If you look at the pictures at the top of TheRot’s site, there’s a screenshot of an OS X kernel panic!!!
Hmmmm, the word ‘desperate’ springs to mind.
From Paul Thurrot(ten)’s http://www.internet-exus.com site:
a quote from Business Week:
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/04_13/b3876138_mz070.htm
The iPod’s high price and lackluster battery life will eventually wear thin, long after the alure of its beautiful design ceases to matter. Other players can be better looking, and easily. It’s going to be hard for Apple to lower the cost, and nearly impossible to improve the battery life, of the iPod. For these very reasons, I recently switched to a Dell DJ. Yeah, it’s a little bigger. But the software interface is just as good as the iPod’s, it gets 20 hours of battery life, it’s $100 to $150 less than the equivalent iPod depending on when you buy it (Dell has sales every other day, it seems), and, yes, it’s compatible with WMA. It’s what we call a “no brainer.”
Yes if you have no brain you choose a Dell DJ! 😎
Thorpedo, your post gave me a mental flash of Paul riding a train or a bus listening to his Dull DJ trying to look cool.
haHAhahaha
Good news = Apple is selling tons if iPods.
Bad news = Apple isn’t selling tons more because their projections were soooo off!

And this is good news to whom?

Apple can’t sell it’s Pods fast enough. Thurrott call this a scam, sham, or an inept plan.
Ok, folks, which is it? Thurrot has no shame or no brains.
Screenshot of a kernal panic?
So is OS X so robust that even when the OS crashes and burns, you can still do a screen shot?
can we please have a thurott photoshoptennis match,
I’ll serve first
please
Apple will announce numbers after this quarter. That is perfectly normal. Thurrot idiot should know it.
