Apple shares up on iPod mini sales news; Apple consuming ‘just about all the 4 GB 1-inch drives bein

Demand for Apple’s iPod mini digital music player “in the United States has outstripped expected supply through the end of June, the company said. Tight supplies of the hard drive at the core of the player forced Apple to delay increasing manufacturing until July, it said. ‘We’re actually consuming just about all the 4 gigabyte, 1- inch drives they make. As they make more, we’ll get more,’ said Greg Joswiak, vice president of hardware product marketing for Apple,” Reuters reports.

“Hitachi Ltd., which manufactures nearly all of the cutting-edge one-inch drives that are made, expects to boost production to meet customer demand, Hitachi Storage Technologies Chief Executive Jun Naruse told Reuters earlier Thursday. In February, Apple said it planned to ship the smaller $249 iPod worldwide in April. It said then it had 100,000 preorders for the gadget. The mini iPod is about the length and width of a business card, weighs about 3.6 ounces and holds 1,000 songs,” Reuters reports. “Cupertino, California-based Apple’s shares were up 71 cents, or 3 percent, at $26.21 in morning Nasdaq trading.”

  1. Quick everyone, blame Apple because Toshiba can’t make enough hard drives to put in Minis ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

And don’t forget to mention that Apple could make more iPods if they charged $199 ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  2. Quick everyone, it’s Nagromme’s fault – we have a signed confession.

Stone him ! Or get him stoned !

If you can’t find any stones, use some Dell DJ players – you can find those really easily. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  3. This may make alot of people upset, but Apple should have charged $299 for the miniPod, if hard drive volume is the only problem. If the cost was $199, then we wouldn’t see miniPods worldwide until Christmas because of the demand.
What Paul Thuraw throat wrote is absurd and ridiculous and again he looks like a fool and he should get fired for continuously abusing his columnist oath to stay neutral. His bias is tattooed all over his forehead. He has nothing else to write about. Surely people at his business are getting tired of this. This guy has an agenda, and as he continues to look foolish, so does the company he works for.

  4. The mini is an obviously overpriced flop. I have looked all over for one and can’t even find one so obviously they are not popular. I would expect to see them for sale everywhere if they were that popular. Apple even announced they are cancelling sales of them internationally until July. Now the Dell DJ I can confidently say is very popular because I have looked and the shelves are full of things. Yessir, Dell does it once again.

  5. Hee hee!

I still like the 3rd gen iPod (Macro?) better.

I have almost sold it so many times – but then I make the mistake of using it and this causes me to change my mind.

Had it on eBay and people were emailing me to keep it !?!

Must be like owning a Mac in 1985.

Paul – Your statement and loyalty to DELL just sums up how ignorant u are!

Did u actually read the news article??

Then again it must be an odd concept for u PC weenies – a piece of hardware ACTUALLY SELLING OUT OF STOCK! – BECAUSE IT’S NEVER HAPPENDED IN THE WINDOOOOOZZZZZ WORLD —LOL!

For your information – a mate of mine bought the dell jukebox and compared the sound with my ipod and was so disgusted by the lack of decent sound that he took it back to pc world and changed it for a 20gb ipod!!

    LOL!

When will u pc weenies ever learn!

Paul TheRot was writing an ironic pastiche of in the style of the one true Paul Thurrott, a fine journalist and a true American hero.

BTW, that last bit was also intended as humour.
