NBA’s Boston Celtics win six straight after owners give Apple iPods to players

Short and sweet:

“The [NBA] Celtics won six straight after the team’s owners gave each player an iPod engraved with his name and number,”

Full article here.

MacDailyNews Take: Obviously, these players could afford to buy the iPods themselves, but maybe they were so happy that management knew enough to spare them from Dell Digital Junkboxes that they went out and raised their games to a new level? And, of course, the iPods are solely responsible for the Celt’s recent success.

  1. pkradd – If he’s going for sarcasm, then “bastids” would work.
Although, most Bostonian’s would spell it “bahstahds”

Remember, we don’t pronounce our “R’s”

Have nothing for the “richers” part though…

(BTW, they’ve lost their last two games. So I guess like the iPod’s battery life, they’re luck ran out……… ha…. ha….. eh.. I know, y’all saw that one coming…)

  2. Wow another Jack. I see you are using the lower case jack but I think to keep things straight I better go by Jack A. By the way your name is really cool. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  3. Wow! That’s great! I fail to see how a gift of a consumer electronic music device can improve the game of a trained set of sports players. You know, there were things such as ‘winning streaks’ before the advent of iPods.

  4. I am going to advise my company to institute a program to increase morale by giving out Minis (I already have a 3G iPod ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”grin” style=”border:0;” />

  5. Just found out that Creative MuVo 4 GB MP3 Player is the bestselling MP3 Player (sales rank 7) on Amazon.com, and its not even shipping yet from Amazon.

The number one position was held for the longest time by the 15GB Apple iPod.

The 4GB Player sells for about $200 at Amazon.com. That is about $50 less than an iPod Mini. Apparently another reason to buy the 4GB Muvo2 is to rip out its 4GB Micro-Drive to use it in other Gadgets like Digital Cameras.
A standalone 4GB 1″ Microdrive costs about $400-$500. So it is a bargain to take it out from player.

  6. Shaq was one of the earliest players to go iPod, two years ago. He even jokingly told his Laker teammates that if they didn’t get theirs too, they couldn’t ride on the team bus. Seems he was tired of all the CD and tape clutter.

  7. Following this year’s lackluster performance (thanks for nothing Danny) I found it suprising winning 6 games in a row. Now I know the reason. More suprinsing is that the owners made such a generous gift even though they have demolished a talented team mainly for financial reasons.

  8. To set the record straight, Shaq said that Lakers w/o iPods couldn’t ride in the _back_ of the bus. There was a Fox Sports clip floating around about a year ago that had Samaki Walker and another scrub going to an Apple Store to pick up their iPods.
