Mac user Rush Limbaugh caught up in dual controversies

Mac user Rush Limbaugh is having a heck of a week with dual controversies swirling throughout the web,TV, newspapers, and radio. Back in March, Limbaugh expounded on the addition of Al Gore to Apple’s Board of Directors:

“We use Macs here at the EIB Network. We’re an entire Mac shop, and Algore, who probably wouldn’t know the Internet if he was on the computer, is now a member of the Apple board of directors,” Rush posted on his site. “I have to see if one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. Gosh, I hope not, and I hope he doesn’t have anything to do, other than ceremonial duties, with this outfit. If they start letting him reinvent Apple like he reinvented government, oh boy… I just ordered a couple of new G4 Power Mac towers, and this is the way I get paid back? Geez.” More here.

Today, Rush Limbaugh is in the news. Bigtime. He has now announced his resignation from ESPN’s “NFL Sunday Countdown” after the flap over his opinion of NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb’s play and the media’s treatment of McNabb escalated over the past few days. Read Rush’s explanation here. Read the ESPN story here.

In addtion, the Drudge Report is reporting that The National Enquirer will allege that “Rush Limbaugh in drug ring… Housekeeper wore wire in set-up, supplied pain pills…Enquirer allege’s abuse of tens of thousands of pills…” Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement to his website that reads, “I am unaware of any investigation by any authorities involving me. No governmental representative has contacted me directly or indirectly. If my assistance is required in the future, I will, of course, cooperate fully.” More here.

Rush is a big Mac promoter who has complained several times on his radio show that Apple wouldn’t use him to do Mac ads because Steve Jobs’ political viewpoints don’t mesh with his. Just this past June, Rush wrote, “I recently bought the latest dual-processor G4. I’ve already hooked up audio, video, iChat – which is their version of AOL instant messenger – and it’s incredible. It’s real-time video conferencing on your computer. The long-distance companies are going to have to get in on this. The G5 is an even more advanced machine, yet Apple’s market share remains static! They have so much superior equipment that they should have at least double the share of the market they hold now. Apple is apparently a company that is so constrained by the political views of its corporate leadership and board, which now includes Algore, that it’s accepting lower sales. What a shame.” More here.

The New York Daily News has more on Rush’s ESPN resignation and prescription drug probe here.

  1. No, it’s okay because Al Gore is the single dullest, most boring politician in the history of the United States. Or maybe the world. Al Gore is a poor little nerd boy who would have been delighted to spend his life, if not for his family heritage, going to Star Trek conventions, sucking down bong hits and trading Phish concerts.

Being appointed to Apple’s board fixed the horrible detour his life took and restored him back to his intended path.

  2. 1. I do not have any sort of rival Mac publication or web site.

    2. Rush, his career, his drug problems, have NO place here being that Rush was never a spokesperson for Mac. (Thank God!)

    3. I believe very strongly in social/political diversity and freedom of speech. I am merely stating my opinion that this article is way off-topic from MDN’s apparent focus. But, if the editors which to make this website more like the Enquirer, that is their choice, as it will be mine to find a website with REAL Mac news, and less opinionated cheap gossip.

  3. Just because they didn’t use him as their spokesperson, doesn’t mean they can’t mention him in a news piece.

Without getting into politics, what Rush said on ESPN was a lame analysis. It was even bordering on racial slur, because what he said wasn’t true. McNabb had been getting POUNDED in the press because he had a crappy first two games. I thought this was unfair press against McNabb. He is an awesome quarterback that has put up incredible numbers even though he has a not-so-great offense. Anyway, I realise this is a Mac site, not a sports site, but I thought I’d give my opinion.

The press coverage of this “scandal” does seem a little bit overblown. If he had a drug problem, don’t you think it’s a little strange that the news is coming out NOW? Kind of iffy if you ask me. Not that I’m a big Rush fan. I didn’t like him on ESPN, but then I don’t like Steve Young or Michael Irving. The show sucked anyway. They only put Rush on to get more ratings.

  4. I don’t know how the stuff involving Arnold is leftist crap–in most states someone with Arnold’s political views without being a celebrity would never be endorsed by the Republican Party (including in California)–but exactly what is FUD about the guy grabbing the tits and asses of women who didn’t want their tits and asses grabbed? I mean, Arnie either had a handful of knocker or he didn’t, and he isn’t saying he didn’t. Arnie’s response seems to be, “Hey, I like grabbing tits and asses, but I’ll be great for women if elected.” I guess he’ll be REALLY good for women with nice tits and asses.

  5. <<AND FURTHERMORE…

This kinda bloody crap is just more of the leftists using their same FUD attacks to discredit their enemies… like what came out regarding Arnold today.>>

Well, it’s nothing new though. Liberals rarely can come up with facts to back up any of their arguments, their entire ideology is based on FUD (you’d think they’d love M$ & Intel since they have so much in common!). They know the only way they’ll beat Arnold in California or get Rush Limbaugh off the radio is with dirty attacks. It’s a joke and more and more people are wising up to this approach and not falling for it anymore. When Arnold gets elected next week it’ll go to show that it’s not working.

  6. mcnabb is over rated and the media is wanting a black QB to star. he was only telling the truth boys & girls. as for his pill habit he needs to resign from those pills.

  7. RIR:

The 2000 election was nothing new though. Conservatives rarely can come up with facts to back up any of their arguments, their entire ideology is based on FUD (it is now wonder they love M$ & Intel since they have so much in common!). They knew the only way to get GW in office was to obstruct and delay. It’s a joke and more and more people are wising up to this approach and not falling for it anymore. When Bush loses next election it’ll go to show that it’s not working.

  8. My 2 cents. First, Rush was on the show to offer his opinion. To think, a sports fan with an opinion (God forbid!). Second, Rush is not racist. In case it was not clear to those who read the transcripts, Rush was saying that McNabb was being coddled by the press because he was black, AND that the defense deserves more credit. Last I heard, some of those defensive players are black. Now why would a racist be giving credit to black players? If the defensive line was all white, then that would be a different story. The point he was ultimately trying to make was that the media was playing favorites, possibly for racial reasons. Since it’s the media that continuing to harp on this alleged “racist”, I think it’s clear who the real racists are.

As for Rush and Macs, he, like many others from all races, religions, and political points of view, knows what is the best platform available. Let’s not turn this into political/racial thing, ok?

  9. So now your true colors are showing “Opinionated Jerk”…well you sure don’t have too many original opinions, but the “Jerk” moniker certainly fits you perfectly. You had better pile on with your FUD now while you can, because you and your liberal buddies will be crying this time next week when there is a Republican in the State House here in California. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

And who do you think will actually beat Bush in ’04? That Clinton puppet and psuedo Democrat fraud Wesley Clark? Or maybe that McGovern wanna-be Howard Dean? HA! Good luck with all that!

  10. 1)Rush “saying that McNabb was being coddled by the press because he was black” isn’t racist?

2)McNabb hasn’t been coddled by the press. They’ve had been ripping him to pieces here in Philly for the past couple of weeks, and have after every bad game the Eagles have had.

The predicate of Rush’s racial argument was untrue and the racial argument itself was imagined. Which leaves just the racial aspect. All when discussing a guy that’s never had a racial angle to his image or marketing to begin with. McNabb ain’t no Iverson and ain’t no Jim Brown–in almost ten years of watching the guy he’s never brought race up as an angle or a subject.

  11. Re: Opinionated Jerk

FUD in the sense of these Hollywood movie-set groupies crawling out from under their mattresses years after the event took place and stating for the record that the star of the movie, on these admittedly rowdy sets (translated: f*ing party-time) took certain liberties with them.

Hmmm… these pudding-pops are on a swinging movie set and they are surprised that the male lead is coming on to them. WHAT THE HELL DID THEY EXPECT? And I dare say that that is why they were there in the first place. And now, synchronously, they all come forward to openly discuss their bruised psyches and how they all felt so shamed at being touched inappropriately. Boo-f*ing hoo, girls. You got just a little of what you wanted instead of all of it. And if you didn’t expect the treatment, you’re all pretty stupid and you’ve learned a lesson.

This may be a stretch, but what do they do professionally? How many are “aspiring actresses?” How many are “models?” How many are “exotic dancers?” How many have any relationship with “Heidi Fleiss?”

What I want to know is how many security guards they went oral with to get on the set, and how many gaffers and grips they did the same with when they didn’t get all the way with Arnold.

FUD in the sense of this simultaneous outing of their experience. The timing is too close to be coincidence, and is pretty timely considering recent election predictions and the revelation that Arnold’s Republican opposition will likely have no effect on a Schwartzenneger victory. FUD in the sense of their sudden urge to come forward at all. Why wait till now? How hard did someone, somewhere have to scrape to come up with this crap? This is very similar to the philandering charges brought against Former-President Clinton except Arnold has admitted that it happened and hasn’t tried to re-define a bunch of terms so he can look innocent.

  12. I don’t think “Opinionated Jerk” likes anybody no matter what, so yeah the “Jerk” label does fit him well and you might want to throw “hypocrite” on to the end of it too. He’s doing the same thing that he’s accusing everyone else here of doing (spreading FUD), he’s just not bright enough to realize it.

  13. Of course the Bush Administration would never reciprocate against any of it’s critics – including the CIA operative wife of Ambassador Wilson.

It started with top White House official Larry Lindsey who said the Iraq war would cost upwards of $200 billion. He was summarily fired. General Anthony Zini who was the Special Envoy to the Mid-east was critical in a speech about the Bush foreign policy saying Iraq shouldn’t be the focus, other terrorist organizations should be the focus. He was fired. When ABC News went over to Iraq to interview troops who expressed displeasure at being stationed there longer than they were told the troops were threatened with a court martial and the White House leaked that the correspondent was allegedly gay and from Canada, as if that mattered. General Eric Shinseki told congress that the war in Iraq would take roughly several hundred thousand troops which is proving to be accurate. At the time the White House was trying to down play how big an engagement this would be, he was criticized heavily by the Pentagon, Paul Wolfowitz and Don Rumsfeld.

Then of course in the whole Iraq nuclear claim, the Bush administration – Condoleezza Rice and the President – blamed George Tenet for giving them the information that he put in his State of the Union speech claiming that Iraq was seeking nuclear weapons. This was later proven to be false, Tenet had actually warned the White House of this prior to that speech. So this is a pattern of essentially trying to destroy anyone who tells the truth about Iraq.

  14. >FUD in the sense of this simultaneous outing of their >experience. The timing is too close to be coincidence, >and is pretty timely considering recent election >predictions and the revelation that Arnold’s Republican >opposition will likely have no effect on a >Schwartzenneger victory.

    *Snort*

When a newspaper runs a single article concerning the interviews they conducted, how exactly are the “outings” going to be non-simultaneous? Should they run one article Monday, another Tuesday, etc.?

What’s funny is seing a guy pumping Arnold flipping out about FUD. Come one, is there a bigger FUDpacker than Arnie for Governor? Arnie’s running a platform more liberal than anything Clinton ever ran on for governor, he’s got McClintock running far to his right, and Arnie winning is a big deal for *conservatives?* Arnie’s running from the liberal Riordan wing of the party, made up of folks that in most places would be Democrats. So who is doing the FUD deployment here? The real conservative in the race is McClintock, and he’ll be lucky to hit 20%.

As for the tits and ass stuff, I kinda like that you’re deploying the full range of arguments Clinton supporters used. That isn’t FUD? Give me a break! :L)

What’s bigger FUD than conservatives looking forward to a governor that likes gays, pot, group sex, and a tit in one hand and an ass cheek in the other?

  15. >”Well, I’m certainly not going to kick a man when he’s down here, >although I’m sure that many liberals out there will have a field day with >this”

Well isnt that funny now… I hate how america has become so partisan. When Clinton was ‘down’ the right-wingers were kicking up a storm…

anyway I dont mind what he said on ESPN after all we are currently at war for our liberty right… Freedom of Speech – what ever happened to it.

The reason people are going to have a field day with this is hypocrisy. If true about his drug use, it would be ironic after he heavily criticized Clinton for his drug use.

Regardless, if true, this would really hurt his credibility.

  16. If Rush had made the same statement regarding all quarterbacks who were leading teams that were doing poorly (this is all under the notion that they were also being coddled by the press), then you could dismiss his statement as not being one of a racist nature. But that isn’t what he did.

As far as Arnold’s situation goes, he never said he didn’t do it. So, why is anyone defending a person that they don’t know beyond the movie screen? The image you have of Arnold is the one that Hollywood gave to you. You have no idea what Arnold does when the cameras are not rolling.

If you have ever been sexually assualted or even picked up a book, you would understand that some people never expose their offenders. Some women are afraid of being attacked and put on the hot seat as if they were the offender. Others just want to move on. Just because they are just speaking out about what happened doesn’t make it a lie.

But since you know Arnold so well, you should help him get a better command of the language and stop him from using sayings that he doesn’t understand. To make a statement as the following: “Where there is smoke, there is fire!” was just lunacy. In a nutshell he was saying that there was some truth to what was being said. So now you will probably project that statement into saying that it means the same as, “its all smoke and mirrors.”

The people is this country can be so foolish at times.
