David Bowie: The Next Day

Tilda Swinton co-stars in David Bowie’s ‘Stars’ video

“The Stars (Are Out Tonight), an edgy and cutting tune on David Bowie’s upcoming new album, undergoes a fittingly adventurous video treatment by director Floria Sigismondi,” Edna Gundersen reports for USA Today.

“Bowie and actress Tilda Swinton play a happily married couple whose domestic serenity unravels when a menacing celebrity couple, portrayed by Andrej Pejic and Saskia De Brauw, intrude in ways that evoke alien and horror films more than Hollywood glamour,” Gundersen reports. “Shot by Jeff Cronenweth, the story reflects the song’s examination of celebrity culture.”

        1. botvinnik, there are “advocates” and there are “zealots.”

No right is without limits. We have limits on Freedom of Speech, for instance, even though that right is fundamental to the nature of our country. The same applies to our other freedoms. It is important to carefully scrutinize and minimize the limitations applied to those rights, because an unjustified erosion of our rights is not acceptable. But the irrational objections of people like Nugent are extreme. Nugent is not just a Second Amendment “advocate.”

        2. Oddly enough, I listened to some old Ted the other day, first time in years. Not near as enjoyable as when I was a teen, but then neither is ‘John, I’m Only Dancing’.

Point is, they WERE rock gods, despite their lifestyles.
And though Ted is no Jeff Beck, but he paid his dues and is much better than ANY hair band guitarist he influenced.

    1. I thought you were smarter than that, botvinnik, but then your icon reminded me that you’re a Stankee fan, so your inability to recognize true genius is not at all surprising.
