Apple co-founder Woz wants to be Australian citizen

“Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has listed the rollout of a national broadband network as one of the reasons he wants to become an Australian,” Negar Salek reports for The Australian Financial Review

“Mr Wozniak told The Australian Financial Review in Sydney that he had spoken to Communications Minister Stephen Conroy and was in support of the federal government’s fibre rollout,” Salek reports. “‘I spoke to him and they plan to roll it out to everyone in the country,’ Mr Wozniak said. ‘I support it very much. It’s one of the reasons why I actually like this country and want to become a citizen. I live in a country where we don’t have any regulation of telecommunications.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Surely this is news to the U.S. FCC.

Salek reports, “In Australia for the launch of the Apple iPhone 5 last week, Wozniak told Brisbane’s 4BC breakfast radio that he was ‘underway to become an Australian citizen… It turns out I can keep my American citizenship. I intend to call myself an Australian and feel an Australian, and study the history and become as much of a real citizen here as I can.'”

    1. When you see that almost 40% of americans still could even imagine to be voting for people like a Rowney (or any of these reps), there is no wonder that lots of american would love to change citizenship!…

      1. As long as you “Almux” stay the hell out of my country.

BTW, don’t you have the right to leave? What are you waiting for? As Thelonious Mac said, “…where the dog shoulda bit ya”.

        1. When that raging Muslim mob will be coming down your street, at least you’ll know what side your president will be on.

“When the ill winds blow, I will always stand with the Muslims.” Barak Obama (in his book, The Audacity of Hope.”)

        1. A guy who wants the rich to be richer, and the poor to remain poor, so they can work for the “winners”… A stupid egoist supported by clicks of religious fanatics and other tea party followers.
At least Obama knows what hides behind the mask of proud America! He saw the misery left by years of blindness!

  1. I’m actually envious having lived a short time awhile back near Brisbane and Surfer’s Paradise that Woz will get to live there as a dual citizen. Australia is an amazing country and the people and coastline natural tropical sites are great.

        1. Agreed, lots of things to like about Vancouver. But, Victoria is so……different. Not to mention there are very few places like Whistler. I think those folks have it figured out.

  2. When Woz says this stuff, I imagine the scene shrinking to a circle surrounding his grinning face, while a jingle plays: “Doo doo doo-doo THAT’S WOZ!”

Whaddya gonna do folks? It’s just Wacky Woz! Ya just can’t keep him under wraps!

  3. Woz, you have my envy.

    1. Nude beaches.
    2. Foster’s beer – (BTW: Do you know why American beer is like canoe sex? It’s f–kin’ close to water.)
    3. National healthcare.
    4. Lower income taxes (www.ato.gov.au/content/12333.htm)
    5. Widely available broadband speeds that the US will never see in 10 years. Most of US rural areas still can only get 52k dialup or expensive and very slow satellite.
    6. Australia is the world’s happiest nation based on criteria including income, jobs, housing, homicide rates, lifespan and health, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. They ranked near or at the top of almost every one of the 11 overall measures, such as average working hours, air pollution, homicide rates and even voter turnout.
    For example:
    • Three-quarters of Australians were satisfied with their lives, with 83 percent saying they expected to be satisfied in five years.
    • About 85 percent of Australians said they were in good health.
    • At least 71 percent felt well-served by their government (voter turnout, at 95 percent of those registered, is the highest in the study),
    • Australians are the sixth-highest scoring in reading, but most importantly, the gap between high performing and low performing children is exceptionally small.
    • Life expectancy, at 81.5 years, is the fourth-highest among member nations.
    • Some 71 percent of Australian women with school age children are in the workforce, and unlike many countries in the study, many of them are able to work full-time.
    • Relatively few Australians work extremely long hours.

The question is, WHY NOT move to Australia?

    1. @aryugaetu Australia sounds like a great place. Sounds like you’re there.

Are you sure you want Woz there? He’d start talking about how some other place was better.

Seriously, Apple PR needs to shut him up. He’s still getting a pay check from them. Most companies have a policy that you can’t speek about their products in public, especially saying the stuff that’s been coming out of his mouth.

    2. The thing that always put me off is that Oz is fully of venomous creatures that want to kill you. Even cuddly little koalas will happily take your face off with their claws.

Nice place to visit, but live there? Maybe not.

  4. Aussie Oz
    Lent to a cause
    Aussie Oz
    Said Android WAS
    Aussie Oz
    Was fuzzy, wasn’t he?

    What a scare!

    To the poem..

    Fuzzy Wuzzy
    Was a bear
    Fuzzy Wuzzy
    Had no hair
    Fuzzy Wuzzy
    Wasn’t fuzzy, was he?

    Was he bare?

  5. Welcome to Oz …. Woz!!! We will welcome you with open arms and autograph books. You are one Guy I would love to meet an exchange a few words with before I die. A lifelong wish come true if I could snare your signature and a ‘happy snap’ opportunity as well.

    1. Religion should never have ANYTHING to do with government! Religions are a plague that ALWAYS turns things to sh..t.
The day America will have a atheist President, then and only then, it will be a mature enough land.

  6. I remember listening to an interview with Woz about a year ago. He doesn’t have broadband at his home so has to use wireless. His quote about regulation is in relation to the monopoly and lack of competition in the US cable / broadband market.

  7. Many people want to become citizens of another country like the U.S. to escape tyranny and oppression and to enjoy the many freedoms under a democratic government. But this pathetic asshole wants to be an Australian citizen because of their broadband network? As far as I’m concerned the Aussies are welcome to keep his retarded ass; I just wish he had to give up his U.S. citizenship because he sure as hell doesn’t deserve it.

    1. Maybe that’s why he wants to get out of the US while he still can…
