Sharp, LG Display begin iPad Retina display shipments

“Sharp and LG Display both have begun small-volume shipments of flat panels for Apple’s new iPad recently after they had failed to meet the requirements previously, making Samsung Electronics the major source of new iPad panels in the first quarter of 2012,” Rebecca Kuo and Steve Shen report for DigiTimes.

“However, the supply of panels for the new iPad has improved recently, with LG Display and Sharp to ramp up their shipments in the second quarter, which will also result in a significant increase in shipments of the new iPads in the quarter and onwards, the sources indicated,” Kuo and Shen report.

  1. This is another nonsense from DigiTimes.

    Despite their claims, Samsung was never exclusive manufacturer of screens for the new iPad. Various tear-downs confirmed at least another one manufacturer of iPad sceens besides Samsung.

    So this whole drama about certain companies failing to achieve quality, and only now finally starting to ship displays for the new iPad is made up in the fashion of good old tabloid journalism.
