Apple has updated a support document on lossless audio in Apple Music with wording that appears to leave room for a new Apple TV 4K, according to MacRumors‘ Joe Rossignol.
The document now says, under the Apple TV 4K section: “Hi-Res Lossless is available only on Apple TV 4K (3rd generation or later).” The current model is the 3rd-generation Apple TV 4K, so the phrase “or later” stands out. It could mean a 4th-generation box is coming soon. It could also be future-proofing, or just a wording slip.
The change follows last week’s report that Apple files included an image labeled “Apple TV 4K (4th generation).” That image showed the same compact black enclosure as today’s model, suggesting the upgrades would be internal rather than a redesign.
A new Apple TV 4K is widely expected this October. Rumored upgrades include an A19 or A19 Pro chip, 8GB to 12GB of RAM, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, Apple’s N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7, and a revised Siri Remote. The current Apple TV 4K, announced in October 2022, uses an A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM. Apple raised its U.S. starting price to $199 earlier this year.
MacDailyNews Take: The support-document language alone does not confirm a launch. Combined with the earlier image leak, it is another small signal that new Apple TV 4K hardware may be imminent.
