Apple on Tuesday released a new beta firmware update for its AirPods lineup, making build 9B5042a available to developers and public beta testers.
Supported Models & Details
The pre-release firmware is compatible across multiple generations of Apple audio devices:
• AirPods Pro: AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3
• AirPods: AirPods 4, AirPods 5
• AirPods Max: AirPods Max, AirPods Max 2
As is typical with AirPods beta releases, Apple has not provided release notes or detailed specific feature additions, performance enhancements, or bug fixes included in this build.
MacDailyNews Note: To test the new build, users must enable beta updates on a connected companion device running iOS, iPadOS, or macOS:
- Connect the AirPods to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac running a current OS version.
- Navigate to Settings and select your AirPods.
- Toggle on the option for Beta Firmware.
Once enabled, firmware installations occur automatically over the air. Place the AirPods in their charging case, connect them to a power source, and keep them near your connected Apple device. Because there is no manual “Update” button for AirPods software, the installation process typically completes over a few hours.
