“Apple has filed an interesting patent with the US Patent & Trademark Office that details a revolutionary type of interface,” Alex Heath reports for iDownloadBlog. “The filing also contains a new social networking application for iOS.”
“A new way of managing data like webpages, music, and photos, has been outlined in an interface that Apple calls ‘Persistent Overlay,'” Heath reports. “The interface takes several elements from Notification Center and the multitasking bar, builds upon them, and expands them as a means to manage data on a systemwide level.”

Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple, “It’s something like a personal multitasking bar system that will hold photos, tunes and documents that you need quick access to during the day. The patent also reveals that a new social networking app is in the works and that you’ll have the ability to use your Magic Mouse or Trackpad with your iPad when docked.”

Anyone remember the X-Space interface for browsing the web?
I really liked that one because it allowed you to very, very quickly navigate sites to what you wanted/needed.
Too bad it never caught on.
Could you link to an article about it, I’m not finding anything relevant.

Spaces for iPhone
Magic trackpad with iPad, I like it. The overlay idea is another idea to keep track of stuff I want quick access to. It’s a consistent idea at Apple. Lion brings us the same kind of thing with quick access to different desktops. So it makes sense.
Patents are cheap. Just throw as many as you can and get rich off of what sticks. That’s the corporate way…
Is that your comprehension of patents?
What a tiny mind.
Apple’s about to kick some serious ass and leave everyone wondering what the hell they’ve wasted their R&D on.
This is just the beginning of a long Apple reign.
It’s intesting that an ‘iPad social application’ is mentioned here. In examining the ‘Diagnostic & Usage Data’ files that are collected as part of IOS 5 ( on an ipad2 in this case ) and sent back to Apple seemingly on a regular basis, mention is made of an ‘iPadSocialApp’ … That’s interesting because I HAVE NO SOCIAL APPS RUNNING on this iPad – AT ALL. No Farcebook, no Googlie+, NADA….. This is saved as a ‘…ipad.plist.synced’ entry in this database…
Wonder what this is???
