The Apple TV series “Palm Royale” has been canceled. The Emmy-nominated dramedy, starring Kristen Wiig and featuring an acclaimed ensemble cast including Carol Burnett, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Amber Chardae Robinson, Mindy Cohn, and Julia Duffy, has been canceled after two seasons. The show, a 1960s-set satire about ambition and high society in Palm Beach, concluded its run following the season two finale earlier this year.

Rosy Cordero for Deadline:

The show’s first season received 11 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for Wiig, and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Burnett. Of the 11 noms, the series took home an Emmy statuette for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. For Season 2, Wiig has been nominated for the Annual Actor Awards, as well as a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series.

MacDailyNews Take: “Palm Royale” had a lot of promise on paper. Packed full to the brim with talent, it just seemed a little off for whatever reason. TV series success is hard.

  1. Was it cancelled, or did it just actually end? I mean, where Season 2 finished up, there really WASN’T anything left for a Season 3. All the main characters wrapped up their storylines neatly, and anything else really would have felt forced. Was a great place to stop, and much as I enjoyed the show, I’m actually happy they concluded it.

  2. I agree with you Rich. The story lines and characters were complete. Although who knows what other “over-story” they could have come up with. But again, what I left wiith was, “this was fun and now it’s done.”
