Apple’s $3,499 Vision Pro spatial computer is struggling to gain traction. Market tracker IDC reports the device hasn’t even reached 100,000 units sold in a quarter since its February launch in the U.S. Sales are predicted to plummet by 75% domestically this quarter. Analysts believe a more affordable model launching next year will be necessary to turn things around.
Vlad Savov for Bloomberg News:
“The Vision Pro’s success, regardless of its price, will ultimately depend on the available content,” said Francisco Jeronimo, vice president at IDC. “As Apple expands the product to international markets, it’s crucial that local content is also made available.”
The early response to Apple’s headset has been mixed. Many reviewers and early adopters have praised its advanced technology, however some of Apple’s biggest fans are now returning the device. Its weight and paucity of tailored apps and video content are among the chief reasons people are turning away from the gadget.
The unimpressive start has spurred a rethink among Apple’s management, with the company planning a more budget-friendly version of the device. IDC’s Jeronimo anticipates that will more than double sales when it arrives in the latter half of next year.

MacDailyNews Take: Shocker.
[This] is exactly what you’d expect to occur when a product is released too early to average users… Apple Vision Pro is a devkit for developers, not for average users, and should have been released as a devkit for developers. – MacDailyNews, March 26, 2024

The AVP is an outstanding product and worth every penny. I use it daily and have integrated fully into what I do. I use it more for productivity than I do for entertainment. I believe the biggest barrier is that people do not yet know how to fully interact with spatial computing. It is a game changer. I would not part with mine.
I would only add that people simply don’t see it providing them value yet. People will learn how to use any device, but if they don’t see a need for it…and it’s pricey, even if the price is justified, it’s a harder sell.
Do you receive a FANBOY cheerleading check from Apple?
Regardless of your minority opinion, the market has spoken…FAIL.
no it hasn’t.
the Vision Pro is essentially a prototype.
a piece of developer kit introduced to start the initial stages of a longterm development and growth.
over time it will improve, become lighter and cheaper, and get more content and customers.
but it has to start somewhere, and this is where it starts.
it’s incredibly naive to think the “market has spoken” after the introduction of a 1st generation non-consumer revolutionary device any more than the “market spoke” after the Mac or iPhone was initially released.
Not an owner…just an observer, but I EASILY imagine it’s usefulness and its market place.
It’s linked the Newton’s “unimaginable” functionality, but as noted, “it’s naive” (I’d say luddite-like) to conclude so early, “it’s a clunker”. Its “I’m a robot” when attached look, is a huge hurdle. Also, from a philosophical POV, strapping on “isolation” is even a bigger hurdle. “Come on over to watch a movie, or do some work together and we can take the device off when we’re done,” is an image, with the “strap on the robot look”, that would be hugely beneficial to “solve” or diminish/combat?
Not planning a purchase at this point, but very high in expectation/anticipation. Unlike some of A’s “innovation” attempts, this seems to fit comfortably w/i AAPL’s playground AND within A’s AI ground plan.
You’re just a loser who’s butthurt because you can’t afford one. Keep saving up at your job at the 7-11. Just a few more Slushies and maybe someday you can afford one.
And just then, you woke up…
So Apple is selling prototypes? Shocker. No wonder it is MARKET FAIL.
As for the future Dear Fanboy, we shall see…
As was the iPod, iPhone, iPad. Before you call something a failure determined by the marketplace. Believing IDC regarding sales of a new Apple product ignores marketplace history. They were one of the major companies driving device failures. IDC also has failed over and over about Mac, iPhone, iPad, watch (oh, another launch failure) launch and follow up numbers. If they keep failing so badly, why is Apple the company with the highest market cap in history at 3.5 trillion. Why not dig back up John Dvorak to bolster your notion of Vision Pro failure?

Yup, I’m a boomer and owner of Apple devices since 1982!
While in college fondly remember Jobs hoisting the pirate flag and also remember founders Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne created Apple Computer Co. on April 1, 1976, incorporated in 1977.
Sonny, I’ll go “gentle” on you…
When it’s as featherweight as a pair of Ray-Bans, I’m in.
Until then, a bit of a non-starter, for me at least.
IDC is a major fail at predicting anything Apple. Don’t fall for their bullshit. iPod, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch all failures according to IDC. I also am a proud Boomer who ran a business on Macs that I retired from three years ago, thanks to my not listening to IDC and investing in Apple. Having used Vision Pro from day one, I can tell you it is an amazing device, that is a move into the future. When it is combined with Apple Intelligence and is deeply integrated with the rest of Apple’s ecosystem, the form factor will improve, usability will improve and software will flourish. One more thing. The value of the company has gone up quite bit since Vision Pro’s release.
