Apple removes two RSS feed reader apps from China App Store

Two RSS reader apps, Reeder and Fiery Feeds, said this week that their iOS apps have been removed from Apple’s China App Store over content that is considered “illegal” in the country.

Apple logoRita Liao for TechCrunch:

It looks like Apple is scouring its Chinese App Store for any remaining services that may not sit well with Chinese censors.

Feed readers of RSS, or Real Simple Syndication, are particularly troubling to the authority because they fetch content from third-party websites, allowing users to bypass China’s Great Firewall and reach otherwise forbidden information.

Major political events and regulatory changes can trigger new waves of app removals, but it’s unclear why the two RSS feed readers were pulled this week. Inoreader, a similar service, was banned from Apple’s Chinese App Store back in 2017. Feedly is also unavailable through the local App Store.

“It seems [the ban] comes from the Chinese government, so I do not see any use in appealing to Apple,” said a spokesperson at Fiery Feeds.

MacDailyNews Take: “Forbidden information.”

The bottom line is that the Chinese government is so deathly afraid of its own citizens that they’re (quixotically) trying to keep them from being exposed to new ideas, fearful that one day they’ll think for themselves. Wonder why? (smirk) — MacDailyNews, November 7, 2019

And therein lies your real fear.

  1. MDN: “It looks like Apple is scouring its Chinese App Store for any remaining services that may not sit well with Chinese censors.”

Exactly what happened. The beancounter phony SJW Tim Cook was quick to reply to more Chinese CENSORSHIP.

Don’t rock the financial boat Tim, you would be immediately replaced. Just go along and the hell with Chinese citizens human rights shielding them from the world and keeping them in darkness.

Great job Tim, the billions are still rolling and Chinese democracy, ahh, oh well…

    1. Why don’t you go to China, break their local laws, and accept the consequences, rather than sitting safe in America calling on Apple’s employees and customers in China to go to jail for you?

  2. You did not disagree with one word in my post and obviously you don’t like it and deep down know it is 100% TRUE. Suck it up, buttercup.🤣

OK Useless, your tongue is tied just like the two hands of Cook by the Apple Board and China. A rather interesting and delicious dichotomy, but hey that’s Tim’s life right now.

Addressing your deflection: Why would I want to move to China? To live in a repressive society that commits human rights violations against its own citizens daily and censors information from around the world keeping citizens in the dark programmed by the state Communist media. Also, I would miss my hunting rifles.

I thought liberals like you would be on the front lines fighting for freedom instead of capitulating to the Communist state like Cook? Hypocrisy runs DEEP in BOTH of you…
