iOS 11 GM leak leaks Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE; video shows new watch face and Digital Crown

“We’re still digging through the new iOS 11 GM firmware, and we’ve unearthed what we believe is the new LTE Apple Watch Series 3 that will be announced on Tuesday,” Jeff Benjamin reports for 9to5Mac. “The new Apple Watch makes a brief appearance in the Watch app sporting a red-accented digital crown, a signal meter, and complications that further hint at wireless LTE connectivity. The model demoed in the Apple Watch app is a Space Gray model with a black Sport band. The Digital Crown is accented with an attractive red surface, which would help to easily identify the fact that it sports a new LTE wireless chip inside.”

“Assuming that red Digital Crown is the LTE antenna, it’s possible Tim Cook was testing this in the wild when the original Apple Watch launched,” Benjamin reports. “The presence of a pre-iOS 11-styled signal meter, though, is what makes it apparent this is the cellular-enabled version of the Apple Watch. There are also complications for phone connectivity and navigation, further suggesting the presence of new wireless radios.”

MacDailyNews Take: Just tell us when and where to order!

  1. Looking forward to getting my first Apple Watch. Go ahead, tar and feather when ready…the form factor leaves something to be desired. The current look reminds me of the earliest iPods; kind of clunky and nothing remarkable except the function of the device itself. I’m sure I will be delightfully surprised with future iterations.

  2. I can’t believe it has already been a year since the series 2 was released. If they do indeed announce the Series 3, I hope LTE isn’t the only main feature that is added. Hmmmm, hoping to be surprised. I need a good reason to upgrade from my 1st gen watch.

  3. I sold my V1 for various reasons. Had it for 18 months but I felt it had too many limitations.

    I’ll definitely be interested in the V3 though, it’s all shaping up for a great Tuesday (and I’m off work all week!)

  4. Rainbow wallpapers? Seriously Timmy?

    I once liked rainbows when it represented God’s covenant to the world, but now that the symbol has been hijacked I’ll pass.

    “Vice is a monster of so frightful mien
    As to be hated needs but to be seen;
    Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face,
    We first endure, then pity, then embrace.”
    —Alexander Pope

  5. Still not interested, sorry. It doesn’t replace a phone with a usable screen. I don’t need another device to sync or charge. It’s too big as a sports tracker, too clunky for my fashion sense, and I don’t like any of the bands. Supposed time savings doesn’t overcome price and other inconveniences. Apps suck on the watch and voice control ain’t ready for prime time. The Watch is just an AppleTV that Apple forgot to call a hobby. Jack of all trades, master of none.
