Leaked iPhone 7 images show new less obtrusive antenna design, potential laser auto-focus

“Leaks regarding the iPhone 7 have been plentiful so far this year. We’ve seen a handful of schematic drawings, component pictures, and a few purported photos of the device itself,” Chance Miller reports for 9to5Mac. “Now, another set of images has appeared on Chinese social media site Weibo claiming to show the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 7 variant. As has been reported in the past, the design is largely similar to that of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, but with a few tweaks.”

“The antenna lines have been redesigned to run along the top of the device as opposed to across the back,” Miller reports. “What’s different here compared to other leaks, however, is how the antenna line design tapers off at either end.”

“There is in fact a camera bump, which is something that past reports have said will be removed, although a set of schematics last week showed the camera bump still in tact. In addition to the camera module as a whole appearing to be larger in this image, there’s also an additional hole between it and the LED flash,” Miller reports. “One Weibo poster claims that the second hole means that the iPhone 7 will support laser auto-focus.”

MacDailyNews Take: As Miller says, “the images should be taken with a grain of salt but the continued corroboration between various reports continues to imply that the iPhone 7 will not be a major design overhaul.”

Do you think slight case changes will negatively impact next-gen iPhone sales?

Our answer: Not if it has an edge-to-edge display or another major impactful feature or set of features.

    1. This is remarkable innovation for Tim Cook. Keep in mind, this is the guy who brought us the Apple Watch… The veritable “Yugo” of smartwatches!

In my 52 years on earth, I’ve failed to find any human being lazier than Tim Cook, and I’ve included prisoners that are on 24-hour lockdown in my survey sample.

This guy allowed the iPad (which could’ve been the greatest mobile computing product the world has ever seen), to virtually languish into obscurity.

Now he took the iPhone, the absolute greatest tech invention known to mankind, that sells like gangbusters (that would’ve kept selling like gangbusters in perpetuity had he only regularly updated it with groundbreaking features and materials), to fall into stagnation, well on it’s way to growth declination!

He destroyed the Apple TV, the Mac Pro… hell, the entire Mac line. Then he had the nerve to update the crappiest product that ever had an Apple logo attached, the single port, Macbook/netbook.

He ruined software QA. He butchered the Apple executive team, surrounding himself with people like him, gay, lazy, nincompoops.

For the past three years he has neglected his job to become a self-appointed gay rights activist on (Apple’s dime mind you).

In essence, because of his mismanagement of Apple, Cook has now destroyed tens of billions of dollars of Apple shareholder value. The sheer result of inherent laziness, apathy, and his stifling incompetence.

        1. And that is the only response that we should provide to this anonymous repeat offender. In fact, no response at all would be even better. Just pretend that he does not exist.

      1. Sounds like this cook fellow has done some mighty egregious things to you. Perhaps we should have him arrested. You seem more than a little aggravated by the actions of this human, this cook fellow. However, I have never seen his poster in the post office. Nor has my local paranoia laced tv station posted him on crime stoppers.

      2. Absolutely spot on!!!

Enough with the all the blind people around here!!!

If you all love Cook so much you should go spent a night with him!

Cook is an operations man, he has no place to lead Apple and it’s products!

His job description is very CLEAR ! What the hell is he doing promoting his Gay agenda?

        Enough is enough???

      3. First off Tim Cook has done a remarkable job, taking the company to newer heights in terms of sales and profits. The iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV lineup has never been this strong.

But here’s what I am tired of hearing the bigots complain about: Tim’s activism with regards to gay rights. Gay rights are human rights. Arguably, this is a far more important issue than having a better smartphone or computer. Decades and even centuries from now, when other technologies have come into being and people remember the smartphone as a quaint old device, like we do the landline phone today, what will really matter will be where the human race stands on these vital issues. Bravo to Tim and to Apple for making a stand on the stuff that really matters.

      4. As one who owns an iPhone 6S Plus, a 12″ Macbook and an Apple Watch, I actually agree with a lot of the substantive criticism of Cook’s reign at Apple.

The Mac line up of computers is confusing.

Much of Apple’s own apps have become bloated and confusing to use (iPhoto, Apple Music (iTunes), for example.

The Apple Watch is just ok

If rumors are true about the iPhone 7, the lack of innovation would be awful.

I have sold my sizable stake in Apple stock because I believe that Apple has lost it’s way.

All of that said, I deplore the comments on here that discuss Tim Cook’s sexuality or make this in anyway personal about him.

    2. MDN:

The same or similar design will completely impact sales in the negative.

If this happens, it will be official: Tim Cook is just flat. Too afraid to retool machines. Too scared to make a change.

I will not upgrade unless iPhone 7 is a radical departure from my iPhone 6 Plus.

  1. Not having significant new capabilities with out any significant design change scares me!

If design is more or less the same… I pray iphone 7 will have features that will make it be way more than just an iphone 6SS

    1. Not every feature is feasible. For example, MDN talks about edge-to-edge display, but it will be only possible if Apple will agree that the screen will be rounded near the edges as Touch ID requires rounded cover glass.

With OLED, it would be possible, but screen will give a distorted picture.

  2. I have sources (whom I won’t identify) that have confirmed the following changes in the iPhone 7:

    Edgy-to-edgy screen
    Removal of home button
    Fingerprint scanner under the screen
    No headphone jack
    Waterproof
    Smart connecter
    4 speakers
    Curved screen
    Turbo charging
    Virtual reality headset ($700 extra)
    Included Beatsbox wireless earbuds
    Works with Apple Pencil
    Integration with Apple Car
-can unlock and start Apple Car
    -provides self-driving feature for car

  3. Edgy-to-edgy screen – good
Removal of home button – not so good. i don’t like the idea of this at all. Do we really want a virtual “home” button on every screen of every app? Or is Apple trying to push us all to memorize more finger origami?
Fingerprint scanner under the screen – i belongs on the home button.
No headphone jack – stupidest idea ever
    Waterproof – not required.
Smart connecter – what’s wrong with Lightning? Just screwing up the accessories market again, just when people were recovering from the slow 30-pin Dock connector phase out.
4 speakers- waste of space that should be used for battery. people have 2 ears, not 4.
Curved screen – creates more problems than it creates
Turbo charging – meh. would rather have overnight charging and an internal battery that lasts 15-20% longer
Virtual reality headset ($700 extra) – not bloody likely
Included Beatsbox wireless earbuds – don’t waste your time, Apple. They will hit the trash can as soon as they come out of the box.
Works with Apple Pencil – fine
Integration with Apple Car – nope. The Apple Car is vaporware, just like Microsoft’s Big Ass Table. (Apple acts more like Microsoft every day!)
-can unlock and start Apple Car — security nightmare
-provides self-driving feature for car — not in my lifetime or yours.

    1. I agree with you about ditching the headphone jack. Wired Headphones are a proven technology that goes back to Walkman 1. They work, they’re inexpensive and do not require batteries. Why does everyone want to ditch the phones so that they can run out and buy a Bluetooth headset?

    2. Mike…Apple has never claimed to be building an Apple Car! How can you justify lumping Apple with Microsoft’s BAT as purveyors of vapor ware? That makes no sense at all. You jumped the shark, dude.
