Apple Retail Store plans for iPhone 6s/Plus: Getting your new iPhone on launch day

9to5Mac has obtained details about Apple’s launch plans for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus on September 25th,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac. “Like previous years, Apple expects long lines for the new iPhone debut so has prepared a plan to help the process go smoothly.”

“First off, like previous years, Apple will limit customers to purchasing only two new iPhones per day and you can only buy two per store reservation,” Mayo reports. “On the big day, Apple will once again close normal Genius Bar appointment services to dedicate as many people as possible, about 50% of specialists and Geniuses, to iPhone sales. ”

“At about 6 AM, queuing customers will be split into two new lines for reservations and new buyers,” Mayo reports. “The doors will open early at 8 AM for iPhone sales.”

MacDailyNews Take: Showing up on launch day without a reserved pre-order is a recipe for frustration. Unless you can somehow manage to beat busloads of mules sent by scalpers to buy two iPhones each, you’ll likely be disappointed. Reserve your iPhone online, at least, and have it shipped to you, at best, if you want to avoid the odiferous melee into which iPhone launch days at Apple Retail Stores have devolved.

  1. Will Apple do a better job regarding stock of all phone models, colors, carriers then they did for the iPhone 6? Purchased my very first iPhone ever, the iPhone 6+, and had the Christmas morning giddies as everything fell into place to get one since Steve first announced the iPhone back in 2007. That is until Apple ruined the experience on all levels, from staring at a frozen website welcome screen for three hours while others pre-ordered, getting up in the wee hours to get a good spot in line for first day sales at Apple store only for them to not have storage size, color or carrier available. But hey, I did get a launch day shirt for the grand opening of the Apple store I went to, so all wasn’t a total loss. Then had to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait until supply outstripped demand all the while Apple started sales in other countries when they still could not satisfy the ones they were selling in. So, good luck to those who want to go this route, I’ll never waste another minute and partake in such frivolity.

  2. So what is the answer to the question for those of us with reservations for the iPhone Upgrade program? Do we show up just before our time slot or hours before like a normal ‘get a good spot’ BS launch day?

I, like the other commenters in the article, feel the time is the time and we are to be let straight in at that time, as if it were a Genius appointment. No?
