Apple negative rumor mill in high gear

“This is the usual time of the year when the negative rumors and stories on Apple kicks off into into high gear,” Jay Somaney writes for Forbes.

“New products are going to be launched (chatter is still September 9) sometime in September although we have no confirmation on the date from the company itself as yet,” Somaney writes. “This is the time when the negative chatter really picks up steam and reaches crescendo levels shortly after the new products are introduced. (bendgate-iPhone 6 Plus, antennagate-iPhone 4, mapsgate-iOS, hairgate-iPhone 6 crackgate-iPhone 3G).”

“Before you buy into these fabricated stories or worse sell your Apple investment based on the false rumor mill, wait till things play out first,” Somaney writes. “More than likely the truth emerges within a day or two after the false rumors start.”

        1. Nope, just FUD Season. . . I saw no one using it before I start using it about four years ago. . . You can be a snarky as you want, but I do believe I coined the phrase.

  1. Lets just kill this Giant tech company known as Apple once and for all.

Reliable products that last over 3 years is no good vision in our consumer world.

    Kil, kill, kill!!!

  2. yes the haters, manipulators and rivals are spewing FUD…

    BUT..
    Apple isn’t guiltless…
    where is Apple PR?

look at the last 6 months, Apple has been relentlessly pounded to the tune of the stock going down more than 15% yet there is hardly a whimper from PR.
At best PR is to build a positive image of a company , at the least they should defend it. Yet Apple PR barely whimpers..

Can anyone argue that the most MEMORABLE PR statements in the last while has to do with stuff not directly related to Apple but social issues like Diversity, Gay Rights etc? Apple PR instantly removes Confederate flags (even from HISTORIC games) spends time to make and release videos on Apple’s participation on Gay Prades but practically doesn’t do anything as Apple PRODUCTS are RUN OVER by FUD …
(No I’m not a Gay ‘hater’, I’m a social liberal and I don’t care about what consenting adults do, I’m just pointing out Apple is business corporation and not a social welfare org and PR should function MOSTLY for corporate interests but does not … )

This weeks clarification of Apple Music retention was one of the RARE PR announcements, it was weak BUT we can see how it stopped or at least eased Apple Music’s perception problems. PR is effective and CHEAP, it only takes a few guys to make press statements (Apple supposedly ALREADY have hundreds of PR and Advertising in house staff) . PR will probably do more than the 130 billion Apple has spent on buybacks for the stock (btw: contrast 130 billion to the ONE billion plus Apple spends on marketing and PR a year which includes all the iPhone TV ads worldwide etc ).

Tim Cook is a smart guy but Jobs was the ‘image’ master for Apple and that part : Marketing and PR is missing today from Apple (Proof? here: where the Mac ads? Has any ad campaign equalled 1984, Think Different, Mac PC guy etc?)

Apple PR Generals SHOULD already be PLANNING FOR THE ANTI NEW PRODUCT FUD NOW with ‘possible scenarios’ and contingency plans. (there was NO PR planning for the Apple Watch launch melt down for example, PR didn’t even smooth the confusion over the 24 April launch misstep … )

Apple PR should be world class like their hardware instead of worse than the corner mom and pop store.

  3. It’s always “Negative Rumor Vill” every day of the year, because it’s not “Rumors”, it’s Apples garbage software constantly causing problems. Even MDN constantly complains about Apples garbage software needing “Focus”. Open your eyes already people. Or maybe, you are all just the 99% of this planet who are morons. Now go ahead and say I’m just a spamming hater…as I write from from 4th gen iPad that needs data deleting every two weeks just to be able to view a webpage without the constant “a problem has occurred so this page has been reloaded” every 20 seconds. Yea, I’m a hater, and it’s because Apple made me that way.
