Besides GPS, Coherent also worked on a project involving autonomous navigation and robotics.”
“In my view, the near-term implication is that AAPL will likely introduce a new map at the upcoming WWDC,” WestEnd511 writes. “AAPL could incorporate Coherent accuracy into its own map to offer merchants, developers and users a more compelling mapping experience. The long-term implication could be the development of the rumored Apple Car, which requires high precision GPS to navigate the roads.”
“Besides the auto implications, I believe that AAPL could move into mobile advertising as the location-based ad and O2O [online to offline] trend catches up in the US,” WestEnd511 writes. “The idea is to have local merchants advertise on Apple Maps by notifying a user of an ongoing promotion and offer a discount to the user if the user purchases the promotion via Apple Pay. The user closes the transaction by going to the merchant for a physical pickup, thereby closing the transaction. This will not only allow Apple to generate advertising revenue but also payment revenue.”

I definitely want non-intusive user requested ads for products I use or am about to purchase. I love the idea of location aware ads so that I can know if the supplier has the products in stock and the supply can know how many units to order IF THEY KNOW THAT I AM INTERESTED AND LIKELY TO BE A CUSTOMER.
I hate intrusive ads for products that I likely will never buy.
Advertisements is one thing, but Apple, much more accurate mapping of afoot or by car routing will be the most important thing.
Besides, if Apple will ever release a car, all of Apple cars will be able to position themselves with one meter accuracy, which is amazing in terms of routing and safety.
My first impulse regarding receiving adverts on my phone/watch was a resounding “no way!” But, after reading the MDN proposal, I think that I would be willing, with certain limitations. The discount leading me to an in-store pickup is very attractive and I would go for it provided I’m not flooded with an incoming avalanche of ads. If we can shut out all adverts except the few companies we’re interested in then, yes, I’m on board.

citizen, I expect Apple will take your approach as it makes perfect sense and is a great compromise.
If Apple did NOT allow ad filtering, I could easily see a counter-ad app war with people jailbreaking their iOS devices specifically so they can install ad blockers and kill ads dead. That’s not a solution or a compromise.

Indeed. My life is not about shopping. I buy what I want when I want it. I don’t want ads intruding when I’m on my way to a business meeting, or the beach, or a coffee with a friend or, or, or….
